My bruthuhs, is there a brand or type of LED 194 license plate bulb that won’t cause the “bulb out” message? Both the Vanquish Auto bulbs I’ve been using and Sylvania Zevo Super Bright LED bulbs I just got won’t keep that message at bay...

Sadly, even with a bulb like that you need to use a load resistor.

Really?? That sucks. Just any ole resistor like what the one Oreileys sells, or in this case the one Advance Auto has? https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p...Vg8DACh0VvwnzEAQYBSABEgI0ivD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

That’s funny though, the only other place I have LED’s in the place of incandescents- not sure if the LED’s in my highbeams and fog lights matter or not but, other than that, I have LED’s in my backup bulbs and I don’t get a bulb out message over that.

Yea that should work. I had to put a resistor on both of my rear LEDs to avoid the hyper flash.

Well yeah, I’ve had to use these for hyperflash-correction on turn signals but I never figured these would be for keeping bulb-out reminders at bay.

I’ll have to get a pair of these I guess and out them on.

They don’t make your bulb out message come on?

Looks like they don’t have these anymore, or maybe it’s the 10 pack they don’t have anymore.

Never had a bulb out message, either with the basic 3.5" cluster or the 7" premium cluster. Honestly just search canbus 194 LED and any will work. I think the one's I have were a cheap option

I had the ones from superbrightleds.com and they never set bulb out but they never lasted more than a month or so. After several times of having them replaced by them I put the Sylvania zevos in. They still work after a year and no longer pop up on my dash as bulb out, not sure why but I’m not complaining either lol

Hopefully maybe for my sake you just had a bad run I hope because I just ordered a couple of those bulbs. Lol.

But I’m assuming every Ram, irregardless of trim, is a CanBus system, correct? I’m just curious why you didn’t get a bulb-out message with the same exact bulbs I tried yesterday.

But did you go straight from the factory-style incandescents to those ones from superbright? I haven’t paid attention to it every single time but I think I was getting a bulb-out message with the ones I’ve been using from Vanquish Auto so, who knows if the bulb-out message ever actually reset with these new ones I got yesterday... which to refresh, are the same ones you said you got that haven’t caused you any message. Lol.

Guess I am lucky, MY 19, Level 2 package, all exterior LED except for Cargo, High Stop. BUT I am not gonna touch dat dang third light housing unless I have to, JUST too many problems with it leaking.....

All my interior even with Level 2 were incandescent and I have changed all to LED, with the exception of Lower glove box, That be a non issue

Even though I didn’t give it much chance, I replaced my third brake light housing not too long after I got the truck but I will say that the gasket on my replacement all LED one was made much better, and was a whole lot thicker.

That was over to years ago and it ain’t leaked.

Same here, I'm not touching my third brake light if it's not leaking. I would prefer to have some LEDs up there, but not going to mess with it.

Those license plate lights on the other hand, I just bought some LEDs to replace the stock bulbs there and can't manage to get my stock ones out. Feels like they are melted or fused into the holder, I've read some of them are so difficult to get out that you just have to break them. Waiting for some warmer weather to mess with them more, but I couldn't believe those suckers wouldn't come out. I've done that same mod to my last two trucks and they came out as expected (easily).

^^^^^^^^^^^^ Gotcha. I just not wanna play there. Also, since I have a full tonneau cover, the cargo light has no bearing, so for my particular Circumstance a n

In the words of Benjamin Franklin......"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"............One of the first things I did to my truck after I bought it was to upgrade the third brake light gasket to the MD weatherseal stuff. Its probably not a case of if its going to leak, more like when its going to leak. As as the 5th gen trucks go maybe the problems been addressed. If you have a 4th gen go ahead and upgrade the gasket now.

As far as I know they’re all canbus systems. Both my trucks I talked about above have the 7” cluster so they should have the same “pickiness” lol

In my ‘15 outdoorsman I went from the factory ones to the superbright canbus LEDs yes. I never got any error messages but after about a month or so they’d start to burn out chips. They kept sending me new ones but every single one was junk so I just switched them all out for the zevos. I had bulb out messages in that truck but now that I have the same bulbs in my ‘17 rebel now it had messages at first but I haven’t seen a bulb out message in months lol I have no idea why but I’m not complaining. Still working nice and bright.

I did this as well with that weather stripping. Also put it on the recon smoked 3rd brake light I bought as soon as it arrived. Have yet to have a leak.

Well I guess if push comes to shove if these new bulbs I just ordered don’t last for ****, I can always just back up and go the route talked about earlier with the LED load resistor and virtually whatever LED bulb I wanted to use.

Everything I've read about LED's said that if you're installing them the only way to avoid hyper flash and the bulb out message is to install load resistors. Because of the LED's drawing such low power the TIPM thinks the bulbs is out. As stated earlier I have LED brake/tail/turn singal lights in the rear and had to install the resistors in order to avoid the bulb out message and hyper flash. There are LED headlight kits you can purchase from headlight revolution with canbus modules attached to them and heatsinks to avoid anything catching on fire. They're pretty pricey ($209.99) for a pair. I bought my resistors off Amazon for $9, had them in two days and they work perfect. No hyper flash or bulb out messages. They're easy to install and definitely IMO the best way to go.
