This is sad, my Dad had a 1979 Buick Skylark that he had built up the 350 in it. He sold it years ago, but it would have been amazing to keep it. Wish he still had it.

Funny, years ago i bought an old 78 Skylark, black, someone handy with a welder MADE a front grill for it, car was little rough around the edges, but i Loved it, looked like a Mad Max car to me, turbine aluminum wheels, An that thing would haul some a$$. 350 looked rough too, but would it run.

Year? I love some Chevelles, early 70s. Some one told me to check out the late 60s, then i liked those too!

Crap there i go not reading again, I see 69, yes!

68-69 was my favorite body style of Chevelle. Didnt like the earlier ones with the squared off style. Didnt like the later ones with the rounded taillights (although those are the years with the ridiculous LS6 engine option .....)

Just did a Google search and it showed 1/4 mile times of an LS6 Chevelle. 13.2 seconds.....that seems slow in comparison to what cars are doing today, but it was probably a lot more fun going "slow" back then!

That was the one weird moment, when i realized years ago, how no matter the muscle car or time, the 1/4 mile never changed that much. Old, big blocks of the day, 14 or so, my 91 5.0 14.2, Now these trucks are getting that! LOL.

Really don't want to tell you this, but i think thats the two chevelles i didnt like. From the side they had the weird angle headlight thing, going.

Please Burla don't see this. ;)

Yep. But the way I look at it, no matter what it would do on a drag strip, street driving a loud obnoxious V8 would be a far more fun experience than street driving a small engine, even if the smaller engine did better at the track.

I dont track my vehicles anyway, I would rather have them perform well in my normal driving style. Driven a bunch of Corvettes, Mustangs, V6 "sport sedans", etc.

I think the most fun was the 2017 Mustang GT convertible. Base V8, "only" 430-ish HP, but it was LOADS of fun to drive. Even more fun than the Corvettes.

Exactly, to me its all about the fun, no matter what kind even, Some of my funnest cars werent even that fast, I had a fiero, loved that one, wasn't fast but you could go cart a curve like no other car. Grandma gave me an old chevette, royal blue, so... i painted one yellow stripe down the top on one side, (driver) put some cheap chrome hubcaps on it, wasa 4 spd manual. So what did i do with that, RALLY it of course, i stayed sideways in that thing more than straight on long gravel road, to my GF house.

Also had a 2003 Yamaha Vmax, wow, thats one fast bike.

Modern cars/trucks are simply amazing when you stop and think what power output was even 25 years ago. Plus they get better fuel mileage at the same time.

Reliability and ease of working on them is a whole other story tho....

I used to have a 70 Monte Carlo 454 SS as well but the wife talked me in to letting it go.

No doubt the new muscle cars have alot more power and way more driveable but I will still take the old over the new.
My Novas getting side pipes and old school Protracs all around with N50s on the back , should go well with the look of the motor I think.

Nothing like riding in an old car, and the smell, you know what i mean.... that before the smog, carb , gas , little oil leak on the manifold you need to fix. Love it. And then theres the old interior smell sometimes.

Totally agree. Older cars have that "personality" that the new cars just don't have...

The smell........that's what I'm talking about. The exhaust fumes from leaded gas did smell a lot different/better. Modern unleaded exhaust fumes smell like **** without catalytic convertors. Don't run across too many of those but they all smell like your lawn mowers exhaust, not good at all. My Nova smelled like mothballs inside something I will never forget for the rest of my life.

Why iron went up? pup to RL still have hot idle tick
View attachment 192579

The first redline run always has elevated wear nearly 100% of the time. It goes back down the next one and from there as well. 20% of people with reldine who have tick still have tick, maybe that is you. Have you checked exhaust bolts? You have a 2500? what weight it that?

Went from FF to PUP until this last change. This report was RL 0w40 as was all the PUP. Both PUP and RL develop Hot tick after 3K miles. I cut open the last three RP 1048 filters don't see anything visible of magnetic. Still concerns me bolts seem ok. does seem like viscoty is better. I had to do an OC last weeK after this oci, and used the last PUP I had on hand.
Maybe go back to RL . Still under the Power train warranty only.

Another update. Switched from redline 5w30 to qsud 5w30. I have 5000 miles on this oil change. The low end knock at cold I had with the redline is totally gone with the qsud. I also maintain 42 psi of oil at hot idle - 9 lbs higher than the 5w20 in our work rams.

I went with a fram synthetic filter and have no tick. Very very occasionally I'll get a start up tap, but it's only after starting the truck after I moved it in the driveway and didnt allow the oil to pump up.

Thanks for sharing.

Keep us posted on the progress throughout the OCI. Also, don’t compare the PSI in your work trucks to your truck. Each truck can display slightly different PSI‘s on the same oil and filter combo.
