Just bought a 2019 Ram Classic Shorty, absolutely love it! But wondering if there is a “break in period” I seem to be getting poor mileage compared to others with quad cabs, and the truck will not coast even going down hill.. is this normal?

My 19 2500 does that anti coasting thing sometimes. Only true break in for mine was no towing for the first 500 miles

I'm not disputing others MPG, but my truck never gets anywhere near some of the numbers posted. And no, I don't drive it like I stole it all the time. Even all highway, my truck won't break over 19mpg. 2015 CC Hemi 4X4 392 gears.

The newer RAMs with the 8spd do have some kind of built in engine braking that will slow you down when you let off the gas. That being said I don't think you can say the truck is broke in for quite a few thousand miles. what gears do you have? 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive? Any mods, big tires,AT tires, etc? With 3.92s and a very stock 2 wheel drive truck with HWY tires I struggle to average 17 with winter gas and probably get more like 15 around town.

Thanks for the input! Yeah it’s the first rig I had that’s done it so I wasn’t sure if was just how these transmissions are or if I had a caliber sticking already lol

Thanks! It’s a 4x4 Shorty, with the the “regular” gear ratio I’ll have to check what that was again lol. Runnng stock size duratracs, S&B cold air intake.. and driving gently as possible lol. I absolutely love the truck just trying to learn as many little hints and info I can!

I've noticed the same thing if I coast in my '19 Big Horn. That it feels like resistance and its slowing itself down. I drive dump trucks and I was saying to myself......wtf....this thi g have brake retarders? LOL

If you have eTorque, then what you feel is regenerative braking charging the 48V battery pack.

Not seeing anything about etorque. Ready alert braking??

View attachment 192606

"Ready Alert Braking" is something entirely different from "Parksense Braking". FCA: Ready Alert Brakingmay reduce the time required to reach full braking during emergency braking situations. It anticipates when an emergency braking situation may occur by monitoring how fast the throttle is released by the driver.Jan 29, 2019

Ummm not certain about this, but it sounds like the RAB may be begining to apply a little brake pressure in anticipation of imminent hard braking. Only you can determine if your personal driving habits may be attributing to this.
