Has anyone noticed a drop in trans temp by running a larger aluminum pan? From the little research I have done so far, most guys say they do not notice a difference. I don't wanna drop $300+ for something that just looks pretty underneath my truck!

On the 8 speeds they do, but if that's all you're after for the RFE behind your 6.4 the thermal valve bypass kit is what you're after. The biggest benefit to the aluminum pans on the RFE isn't the temp drop, but the extra fluid capacity. Since RFE's are pretty fluid sensitive having more capacity will keep it "cleaner" longer.

This is the bypass I've seen most guys running on their RFE's to drop the temps. There was a good bit of discussion in the syn thread a while back on these.

I honestly didn't notice much of a difference in temp, maybe 5* when towing. The main reason I wanted an aluminum pan was to get a drain plug and the added fluid capacity. Makes doing fluid drain and fills as easy as an oil change. I had tried a drain bolt kit which leaked so I ended up with a MagHytec pan.

I have already removed the bypass valve. I am not running hot, but I do tow heavy, so I was wanting any extra help that I can get.

I did not see any drop from mine. But more fluid and drain plug is the main reason i did it. I got a great deal on my pml and it was just over 200. Cant remember exactly. But i believe i got it from moes.

No drop for me too but like "ripping r" said, the reasons are more fluid and a drain plug. I bought the Maghytec for about 280$ and I'm very pleased of it.

No drop in temp for me either. Drain plug is very nice! Additional fluid is nice too.

Mishimoto just came out with a nice thermal bypass valve. I found it posted on the cummins forum yesterday. It has the ability to run a serviceable 160°F thermostat or you can run it without one. It looks to be the best designed one out there to date.

For no more than I will be changing the oil in the tranny, I don't think it is worth the $300 just for the convenience of it. Thanks for all of your replies.

On my 2012 with the 6 speed I absolutely noticed a drop in temperature with everyday driving and of course when towing.
I have a 8,000 trailer, so that’s why I went with a Magtec pan. More oil and lower temps.
I’m happy with it.
