I've owned one or more of each GEN RAM. I've never had 9ne back to a dealership for work. Any issue I've had was fixed in my garage. My 97 was my highest mileage truck at 280k. Worked that 1500 hard pulling my skidsteer and plowing snow. It was still running great when I sold it. My 07 had 180K, but I did do a pinion bearing on it. Traded that for an 18 1500, and then traded that in late 18 for my 3500. Already have 43K on it in just 14 months. I've also have owned multiple jeep and dodge cars. My 2010 charger was my wife's hemi, and she ran It hard for 185K miles. It developed a hemi tick at 32K miles. I messed with it a little and told my wife if she could blow it up, I'd buy her a Hellcat. She never did. That sits in my garage still.

So I say dont worry about your purchase, unless you start ripping parts off and stuff. Many issues are self inflicted.

Good topic here, thanks for starting it. We have 3 Ram trucks
Farm truck '96 2500 w/around 180,000 km, 5.9 gas + auto. Every panel is damaged, the engine has had a tick tick tick when warmed up, for 12 1/2 years now, ploughs snow, hauls firewood, fence posts, you name it, Rebuilt the trans twice, that's it.
'05 3500 5.9 Cummins/6 spd. manual, 283,000 kms. Great mileage, 24 mpg (imperial) Water pump once, CP3 pump once (it worked fine but started leaking a bit, a couple of U-joints, some front end work and that terrible driver's seat but I plan to keep driving it. Third is a '10 3500 6.7 Cummins, around 60,000 kms. It's been a good truck, sure has lousy fuel economy though 10 mpg empty. Another keeper in my opinion.

2014 3.6 1500. I love my truck. It's went in for a short once, where it wouldn't start. Covered under warranty as I was about 2 years in. 125000km or just under 100k miles. I keep up with maintenance (mostly myself) and oil changes myself. My wife's explorer has had 16k worth of warranty work since 2016 for comparison.

A good story, RAM doesn't let you harm the engine. I accidentally turned it over once it was started already yesterday. First time. Nothing happened. It wouldn't fire the starter because the engine was on. Thanks RAM. It's the little things.

95K on my 2015 1500 5.7L with only one repair(broken exhaust manifold bolts). I consider this a huge victory compared to our Subaru head gasket failure @70K.

Good thread. I've certainly been negative about my truck / RAM (and I believe it is warranted), but it's not all bad!

I love the interior of my truck and to me it has a timeless body style. I love the way the wheel feels in your hands and the seats are comfortable. The interior controls are where they should be and easy to grab / manipulate; yes, even the dial shifter! I like it.

I just did a 600 km road trip on a single tank of gas with fuel left in the tank. My dad (Chevy guy) was amazed with how fuel efficient the truck is. Even considering it has a larger, more powerful motor than his 5.3 ... and I had cylinder deactivation deactivated so we were on 8 the whole way.

On my road trip I picked up another FCA vehicle ... so I guess I'm in it now. Got myself a Jeep JK for the trails.

Had a 2012 that I bought new and traded in last year...Was a great truck with no issues - not even the 3rd brake light leak. I'm a year into a 2019 and also no issues - except I'm bring it in next week for a few of the recalls I finally got around to taking care of. They've been solid vehicles for me so far....

I'm so happy to see this thread. Honestly being a brand new Ram owner and wanting one for a number of years, some of these other threads are a drag. Maybe some didnt do research as I did and maybe some did. MDS threads, gas mileage or not enough towing capacity depending on which truck you purchased. I fortunately bought an awesome Power Wagon and love it. Even though I knew everything good and bad.

Yes, I did research, cross reference this and that, but bottom line is that I wanted my Ram. PERIOD!!!!

I've never seen so many people with pre-engineering degrees talking about so many topics on just about every major component on Rams or Dodges. Just blows my mind how Dodge/Chrysler dont have you on their pay roll. I mean, really!

Yes I'm being a SA, but in a world of everything being negative about something. I'm just chapped that some of us have to read all the negativity. I though, refuse to allow any opinion or thread, cause me any concerns. If having the MDS causes failure, oh well. That's life! Do I want it to happen? Hell no I dont. The thing is, **** happens. Period! No, I dont have a butt load of money, lifetime warranty or so on. However, I'm a realist and realize about vehicles as i do about people. None of either, to include myself are perfect. Were all going to fail something or someone at some point.

That's when you do what's necessary and drive on. Not making light of these happenings. Just saying, move on.

Now that my rant is over and I feel 10lbs lighter, maybe even 12lbs. Im sure I will be snubbed or even possibly kicked out of this forum. That's okay though. Im always faithful. Do or die. Semper Fi!

So here's my good story on my Ram Power Wagon. I love my Power Wagon! If it fails at some point. Guess what? I will get it fixed and keeping loving it more. You know? Overcome and adapt!

Great thread. I went from GM to Dodge trucks in 1986. Have had many. Our 86 Ramcharger never let us down. From Sierra snow to Mojave desert. Our kids loved that truck. Paid $12,000 new. Sold it for $3,700 14 years and 160k miles later. My 03 Ram 1500 QC Hemi was another winner. Paid $24000 for it. Sold it 16 years later with 335k miles for $3500. Only major expense was rebuild the heads at 150k. $2400 parts and labor.
Today we have a 2018 1500 3.6 Tradesman and a 2018 2500 SLT 6.4. The 2500 has been a PIA with exhaust leaks and cold start engine rattle. The BS TPMS system, MDS and other socialist PC features forced on us by Federal and State agency freaks, through the manufacture is offensive to a otherwise great truck. So far we think our Tradesman will be another great one. Ride, handling, performance and comfort is why Ram is winning.

I'm gonna jump in here too, to say that this thread is a breath of fresh air. In re-affirms the fact that there are more non-problematic rams than problem rams. Really glad to read each and every one of these responses.

2017 CC Express (poor mans sport). Hemi, 4X4. No issues after almost 3 years (knock on wood).

Oils changed when they indicator says 10-20%. Synthetic at dealer and I only run 87 in it. So far so good aside from some leaks from brake light. Couple annoyances here and there but almost 64,000 kilometres and going good

Two stories:
1. Purchased new 2003, 2500 5.7 hemi and had no issues till 175,000 miles and then had a short block put in and now have 235,000 miles with no issues.

2. Purchase a used 2015, 1500 eco-diesel with 25,000 miles, a year an a half ago and put 11,000 miles on it pulling a TT (7000 lbs.), last fall all through the Western states from South Carolina. Now have 57,000 miles on it and it gets 15 mpg pulling the trailer and over 30 mpg without and I LOVE IT!

RAM's ROCK!

Just a slight bearing noise and I checked for pulley freeplay and it was loose.About a month or two before I checked it and it was fine so they can go bad fairly rapidly it seems.

Thanks

and on topic. I've had my 09 for 7 years and as stated 105K.
The only thing that has broke is the electric fan which I replaced it the V6 fan and ditched the clutch fan.

Now the passenger side air vent actuator broke also. The one in the back of the dash. Just had that replaced which was not cheap.

Other than that it's been a damn good truck.
I've changed, brakes, ball joints, tie-rods, sway end links etc, shocks.

Bought a new 2018 1500 in Dec of 2018. 5.7 Laramie.
Will roll 51,000 this week. Only issue was the damn uconnect update that screwed up the audio. Downloaded fix on this site for that. [emoji869][emoji41][emoji869] Oil change and tires rotated every 5k ish with mobile 1 and new tires around 45k. Truck hasn't missed a lick. Couldn't be more pleased this far.

First of all, let me state that I've always loved my Dodge trucks. Great ride, style and fair price. First one had 330K kms over 7 years, replaced with a 2005 Ram Daytona followed by a 2008 Ram QC.

My current 4th gen. Laramie CC has had more issues than the other three combined. Some are minor annoyances that shouldn't be there in an upper range truck, others are just downright stupid like an axle pinion or the entire electrical going bust.

The older generations were built better.
