Hi. I too have a “15”. It’s CTD 4x4 Big Horn. Is this radio/gps issue commonplace? I’ve not had mine updated and I believe it’s the original product and software. RAM guys, what should I be looking for and/or doing?

regards, chris

I can tell you this. The service rep at the dealership handling my case said this, nearly verbatim, I love Chrysler, but these radios are always breaking when doing updates. He said they were updating mine and a van at the same time and they both failed.

In case you were wondering, another week went by with no radio. I think we finally settled on them putting the dash back together and giving me my truck back on this coming Monday if the radio doesn't show up. That way they can just call when it gets here.

I don't know if these dealerships realize how big of a pain it is having to babysit these pristine loaner vehicles that you can't even park without fearing someone will slam a door into them, or even installing car seats that will put marks on the rear seats that won't go away. Not to mention you can't use them as trucks. They give you pretty little jewels that you have to return as pretty little jewels.

I think they realize. The question is if they care, since it will be the customer's issue to fix, not theirs.

I had the dealership put the dash back together and return my truck til' they get the radio in. The work to the rear diff seams to have gone great, the truck is driving smooth as silk, no more noise. So I am thrilled about that. Just a waiting game now.

So, here is where I ended up. After 21 days with no truck, I asked the dealership to just put my dash back together and give me the truck with the radio stuck in the loop. I was fine with having no radio, just needed my truck back. I pick it, download the most up to date software (Uconnect_VP3,18.45.01-My13-17) put it on a USB and fix it myself in 20 minutes. Go figure. Now the radio works just fine. The dealer could have given my truck back after just 9 days. I called FCA to confirm there was not special software update that only the dealer would have. They said what I had was the latest and greatest and were very happy that I was able to update the radio on my own.

So my 2015 is at the shop having the rear differential rebuilt. No worries there, as it was under warranty and they were happy to help. But wouldn't you know it, while going through the paces I suppose they discovered I had some sort of update for my GPS. While installing the update it seems my radio was bricked. Now I am waiting for a replacement before I can get my truck back. Good times.
axle going in shop said it failed 59,000 nut recall test they could do I change gears sucks right !

I had the same thing a few years ago. It was going to be two weeks so I made them give me my truck back with the radio removed. Two weeks later I took it in and they dropped in a new radio. It's the same with any manufacturer or dealer. Those folks aren't customer service oriented, so you need to look out for yourself. Their heads are in the right place but they don't ever think about the imposition placed upon the customer.

As for the guy not ever changing his tranny fluid because nothing broke yet, I suggest not changing your engine oil too! Same strategy.

Good to see ram is so on top of things ...Glad to see the issue got resolved (by you), sorry that ram couldn't have figured that out while your truck sat there forever out of use.

It gets better, once I got my truck I downloaded the software , performed the manual update and fixed the radio myself. It took 20 minutes, 25 if your count the download time. So today I go back to the dealer to get my receipt for the rear differential work and they say, "hey your radio is here, we can schedule the install for Thursday." I tell them, yep fixed it myself, it took 20 minutes. Guy just looks at me and says that is crazy. He says that the dealership is sent USB dongles from Chrysler and that is what they use. So if one is corrupt or otherwise not working and the radio goes into a loop, they call it broken and quit. No problem solving, not using their brains. If it doesn't just work, they quit on it. This world we live in is in a sorry state of affairs. 21 Days they had my truck.

You are absolutely right....no problem solving or brain usage. Just follow a flow chart published somewhere and move onto the next vehicle.

Hopefully RAM Cares can relay your story to people in a position to actually help fix the issue because you are definitely not alone in the "lack of common sense at my dealer" department.

Send this man a gift card. We shouldn't have to fix things a dealer can't fix. Charge the service manager of said dealership

Conclusion
I emailed the Service Manager as well as the dealerships top Guy. It was polite and just gave them a run down of my case and asked them to more or less try to look at it as a learning opportunity so the next guy doesn't have to be without his vehicle for so long. I also suggested they might do something nice for me in since because of the long wait, and my ultimately fixing the issue myself. The service manager responded and said he agreed on all points and that they would indeed use it as a learning experience. He also said he would honor my suggestion of helping me out with a tit for tat trade on another service. I am quite pleased with the outcome. Who knows if it will help out the next time they run into something like this. I feel like nobody wanted me to have a bad experience, they just get tunnel vision and don't really put enough thought into the best way to deal with these situations.

Y’all do realize the amount of space it would take to stock all the parts it would take to completely rebuild one of these vehicles from bumper to bumper. Much less covering a 5 year span and all the different models and options. It’s aggravating when the part you need is the one they don’t have. They can not ship out each individual part separately either. It’s cost prohibitive. I just hope I can be as understanding and obligable when it’s my turn to wait.

While I totally get this, there are also things like FedEx and UPS that ship things all over the world in the blink if an eye. My truck waited 3+ weeks for parts last time and is now facing something similar due to "back order" for a valve body. IMO Ram needs to get it together. You can't tell me there are no valve body's anywhere for a transmission that is probably installed in hundreds of thousands of trucks.

Not the problem. Issue is ram only ships parts for free at regular rate, 4 day turnaround. If the dealer wants it faster they have to cough up the cost and they lose money. None of them really care about your time, just the bottom line.
I think that is why all of us who do care get so mad. No reason to bs a customer.
And how do I know? I asked when it took 4 days while out of state for the damn dealer to get the wrong part.

Yeah, but there is a very large difference between 4 days and 21 days, no?

Yeah, this is what I'm talking about - 1 day or 4 days, whatever. My truck was in the shop for 31 days last time and I was told it was due to parts availability.
