I have a 2018 Dodge Ram 1500 (2WD). The tires that are on the truck now, are Goodyear P265/70R17. I've been debating between the Michelin Defender LTX M/S or the Goodyear Wrangler Ultraterrain A/T. Granted, my truck is 2wd, but I really like the look of that tire. Anyone have any experience with either one? I'm figuring the Ultraterrain would have a lot more road noise compared to the Michelin LTX tire.

-or-

Is there a better tire out there for the price/quality? I'm mainly driving on regular highways and interstates.

I'm also considering the Falken Wildpeak A/T3W.

I've ran the Wildpeak A/T3W on my '15 2wd ram for about 18k miles now, and the Goodyear ultraterrain AT on my wife's '17 4wd Yukon for about 3k miles. Despite the far better sound deadening package on the Yukon, it still has more road noise than my ram with the ultraterrain. I almost swapped them out for wildpeaks, but decided to let them run their course as the road noise was still acceptable and I wanted to evaluate treadwear (I'm not convinced the wildpeaks are going to live nearly as long as advertised). One consideration, I believe the ultraterrain is a Discount Tire exclusive. Could be a deciding factor.

Appreciate the info! I am planning to go to Discount Tire, and I've read that the Ultra Terrain are a DT exclusive. I've also been reading up on the Nitto Terra Grappler G2 tires and debating on some of the Cooper tires as well.

I'm planning to run the G2 next on my ram. It's the only P-metric 275/65-20 I can find. I want to bump up to a 34" tire, but don't want the weight of an LT tire.

Michelin all day every day. Best tires I've ever had. Had them on the last 3 4th gen's I've owned. Also have them on the boss's Chy 300.

I went with Discounts' exclusive Bridgestone Dueler LTH and have been really pleased with them.

They don't have the aggressive look but have handled the IL winter so far very well and I think they look good when cleaned up. Just something to think about.

The Ultras have no mileage warranty and a 500 treadwear, the Bridgestones I'm using have a 70k and 720 treadwear.

Those Michelins and these Bridgestones are basically the same thing. The DT salesmen said the B-stones actually outperformed the Michelins on their test track. Not sure I believe all of that but the B-stones were just a little less expensive and my DT had them on hand so I figured why not.

If you're all highway and interstate driving you'd do your pocket a favor by going with the Michelins or Bridgestones both from a longevity standpoint and fuel mileage.

Whatever you choose to do with tires it's really all just a give and take. You will always have to make compromises somewhere.

Appreciate the input. I called DT and they did mention the Dueler LTHs. I'll look at those too. I was wondering how fuel mileage would be impacted with a tire like the Falken Wildpeak A/T3s. Highway and interstate will mainly be what the truck is used for. Again, it's only 2wd, but I do like the looks of the AT tire, but like you said, compromises have to be given somewhere...

+1 for the Michelin Defender LTX. Very quiet, long wearing, balanced with very little weight and great wet weather traction.

I haven't run the G2 but I have been very happy with my Ridge Grapplers .... quiet & balance good ...... I have also ran Coopers & they were great also......only got loud when they wore down

Nokian Rotiva AT tire lightweight and good in snow here in Colorado. Guy at Main Street tire recommended them and ive been pleased so far after 10k miles. The guy is a friend of my brothers so he wasnt just trying to sell me some tires. I ended up getting them at Simple tire for a very reasonable price. They are the main tire used over in Russia and Finland.
