Smelled antifreeze and opened the hood. Saw some dripping from water pump. Small puddle on floor was orange rusty color. Drove to dealership and yep. New water pump. I thought 62,000 was a little premature. $1000 in parts and labor, coolant flush. upload_2020-3-25_17-0-17.jpeg

How close were you to 5 years? I figure the 5/100k didn't apply because of age but I bet the dealer could have gone to bat with fca for you.. If they wanted.

And NOT at Pep Boys as dexter suggested above. I wouldn't let pep boys do anything but tires & oil changes, find a good independent shop with a good reputation.
:favorites13:
Well you may be an independent shop owner and pushing him that way.

I've had good experiences with Pep Boys.

Also, the OP could have gone to PepBoys for a quote first and then possibly negotiated a better price with the dealer.

The one time I let Pep Boys work on my stuff - ordered tires (good deal, decent tires). Ordered a set of 4, they call me when they are in and I get them installed.

Go to pick up car...3 tires are the same, 1 is different (same size and brand, different model and clearly different tread pattern). So after waiting for the ordered tires to show up, they installed them and either didnt notice the 4th was different, or was hoping *I* wouldnt notice the 4th was different.

Regardless of it the person posting owned an independent shop, Pep Boys has proven to me why I would use an independent shop first.

One error and you slam 930 shops across the nation?!

Why would an independent be any better?

I guess you don't eat at fast food stores any more because a teenager at one screwed up your order in 1995

Because I have about 10 independent shops closer to me than my nearest Pep Boys.

PB isnt any cheaper here and Id rather support a small business (especially in our current financial environment).

But, you do you and try to fire up an argument.

Sorry, I am going back to the original thread... I had the water pump replaced in my 14 Durango at about 75K (5.7 Hemi) . It was under warranty and completely covered. The dealer staff told me there was a defect in that particular run of pumps due to the fact they were manufactured without the standard "Weep Hole" causing heat buildup in the bearing and causing premature failure. Just food for thought..

The pep boys by me have a terrible rep for mechanical repairs and customer service.
