Convert, for now.
Engine
small
Ive been a Chevy guy all my life, owned one Ford. Then 2011, bought a 4th Gen Ram, haven't looked back.
We have several 5.3 Silverados at work, and they are terrible to tow. Now the 6.2 is a totally different engine. Way better.
But, for me, too many small issues on the new Silverados we have bought over the years.
I rented a new Silverado in Vegas to drive to Lake Havasu last summer, had under 10k miles...already had wind noise on the driver door...drove me crazy.

I tow a few thousand miles a year. Check tire pressure before we leave, check tire and hub temps with infrared temp light and grease bearings couple times a year or as needed.

I had a nice GMC for years, it was a great truck. Bought it new and maintained it well.
Am on my second new Ram and really love it. Same thing about maintenance.
Both trucks were kind of no frills because that's what I like.
In the end it's your choice, whatever you decide I wish you well.
Opinions on a Ram forum should be slanting towards Ram so 100% Ram no other, lol.

My neighbor has the GMC. Paid about 68K, its all old styling on the inside. Tons of plastics and hard surfaces. The monitor is small and as cheap as the 5 year old model. GMC can keep it! I wouldn't insult my neighbor, however I could see his expressions when looking at my Ram Limited. Towing capacity is a different story and I see lots of different thoughts.

Unless GM has dramatically changed the suspension from the previous model(2014-2018) I know there's got to be a huge difference in the ride since the GMC still sports wagon springs in the back. I owned several GM trucks before jumping to RAM 5 years ago and the ride on the previous gen was worse than my old 64 F100 with straight axle front end/leaf springs.

The 6.2 is definitely a better engine choice than the 5.7 HEMI but don't dare put anything in it but 91 octane or higher or you will feel the loss of power and it will spark knock under load. You can actually run 87 in the HEMI without too much problems but I would run Top Tier fuel at a minimum. I would think a Limited would still be considerably cheaper than a Denali by at least $5K. Make sure you get the 3.92 gears and limited slip if you do test drive and/or buy the RAM as it will help with towing and makes the truck a little more fun to drive.

I run 89 in my 6.2L it hates 87 loves 91 I can get by with 89 if I tow I go 91 or more.

Ram has the best ride and looks IMO. Agree with what some have said the 6.2L is a good engine and I like it. I hope the 1500s get bigger engine option than the 5.7L soon.

Yes I have driven them. The mirrors are bigger than what I have now so they didn’t seem small to me. I will pay attention to that the next time I look at them.

Smaller than GM mirrors? Am curious, what are you currently driving? A Ford Courier or Comet?

Thank you. The young lady who was showing me the truck didn't know a thing about them so I missed that there was an Uconnect app or a hitch camera view. Those would certainly help.
Amazing how un-informed some of the sales staff are at dealerships. I’m sure it’s not unique to Ram. That’s a failing of the dealership’s general manager.

I looked at Ford GMC, Chevy and Ram with no preference to any. I eliminated GMC and Chevy because they dont have adaptive cruise and that is super important to me. I liked the Ford engines a lot but not the Aluminum body. I read everything I could find and at the last count I found that the Ram 1500 had won truck of the year by about 6 major publications and was also awarded as the 2019 Luxury VEHICLE of the year by Cars.com. Even Consumer Reports magazine scores the Ram above the GMC and everything else for that matter.

Rather than try and second guess the experts at Motor trend, Car and Driver, Consumer Reports, US News And World report etc etc I just bought the Ram and am very happy driving the 6 time 2019 truck of the year.

I just went thru this. Drove a F250 platinum for a few years. So I started looking at gassers.
Drove the for gasser 7.3, denali, ram 6.4, tundra

I ended up with a ram 6.4 2500 Laramie.... Best decision I made. The fit and finish by far blew them out. Love this truck.

Id say RAM 1500 all day

Buddy has teh GM.
Nice Truck, no real gripes, for him.
For me, it way too noisey and this before I sound proofed my Cab.
keep in mind, we are both Locomotive Engineers so its not like we hear real good to begin with.
He honestly can;t hear any noise.

We give each other ****, about everything, constantly.
He did say, with his Wife present,. he liked my truck, after driving it home for me.
I had driven his truck to my local dealer, nite b4 when leaving his Farm 60 miles away.
he had an appointment and saved him some hassle.

Best Part, I told him I was so ashamed I might be seen at the Chevy Dealers Service Dept.
Someone might know me and I would much rather be caught visiting a Same Sex Cat house.

His Wife started to snicker than caught herself.
That is going to be fondest Memory of Her, forever.

Figured my comment was better than saying thanks but I still think your truck is a POS>.
His Wife as there and she is a Sweetie

Been in Ford land for 10yrs had F-250 V-10 and V-8's and Ecoboost in 2018 had allot of problems with the new 10 Speed, miss shifting, slamming into gear, replace valve body etc.
I bought the 1500 Laramie, in 9/19 its got the others beat, better ride, better performance, and over quality, get the 1500 or the 2500 you will be satified, I love the rumble of the Hemi!!!

if I was willing to just go with what the press had to say I wouldn't need to ask. The problem is that they don't know what is important to me.

While the interior of the Ram is nicer that is not as important to me as functionality. If anything some of the "neat" things are a run off. I want to know what truck is going to be the best for me towing my boat.

You most definitely don't need the 6.2 or even the 5.7 HEMI to pull a 4K lb boat. The 3.6, or even GMs 4.3 would pull that easily. I seriously doubt RAM has any changes in store for the upcoming model year esp. with this virus stuff going on. I wonder if GM ever got that highway vibration problem from the previous generation ever figured out? Anyway if you do test drive a GM truck I would highly recommend taking it out on the freeway and opening it up to at least 75-80 MPH on both asphalt and concrete and check for shakes. If you never use the freeway you'll never know its there.

Thank you for that advice. Does the shake occur when towing? I am actually more concerned with the window leak in the GMC and that is very close to keeping me away by itself. I don't go very fast in the truck - I have a Corvette for that.

I have no doubt that the 5.7 will suit my needs just fine. I really don't care about gas mileage either since I won't be putting many miles on the truck. It is some of the little things that, to me, will tip the scale in one direction or the other.

Unfortunately here in PA the dealers are closed until at least April 30 so all I can do is bug you guys with questions.
