Maybe should be in its own thread, but:

Cleaning my garage yesterday, I came across 3 RP 20-820 filters. One slightly used, 2 brand new. All 3 purchased a WHILE ago, like 2 years.

2 of them (slight used 1 + 1 new one) have a dome end bypass and small round holes in the center tube. The 2nd brand new one has a thread end bypass (I think) and scalloped holes in the center tube.

My impression was that the round holes was a new development, but these filters have to be old based on when I bought them. A dome end vs thread end bypass is a pretty big difference as well.

This is exactly why I'm shying away from RP filters, they keep changing the bypass valve and center tube design. Plus I see yours have rust starting on the base plate as well. L

I personally will be using either the SRT filter or WixXP going forward.

Yep....the thread-end bypass one looks very similar to the SRT filter I used, but I think the SRT filter has a dome end bypass.

I havent tried a Wix yet, or a Fram Ultra. But seeing as how the RP is hard to find anyway, Ill use SRT, Fram Ultra or WixXP from now on.

Yeah, I have an RP waiting for my wife's Acura, but I am getting a little spooked now.

Reading the board this morning makes me wanna go out and change my oil about six weeks and 2000 miles early. Just used PP and Royal Purple filter for the first time my last oil change.:confused::emotions133::dogpile:

Was actually thinking changing just the filter myself. Lol. Kidding aside i may go to the srt next change

I'm about to order some stuff and pick it up. Other than go to work and get groceries I haven't left the house for anything in a month lol.

You guys should post in filter thread any evidence. Mine still look good, I guess I need to open all 20 and take a closer look.

Well they are not going to stay rusty or get rusty when used. That part is covered in oil so it is not an issue.

The round holes were the odest holes, then they went to the cheese grater, and now it seems they went back to the round holes, at least in some filters. All the ones O cut open more than 5 years ago were round holes. The changing bypass also doesn't bother me. But what does bother me is the rust. Especially if it is on the inside, the part we can't see. Maybe guys especially in places with moist air, find a place inside to keep those filters.

I do believe my build dates were around 2017, so when I get a chance I will open all and see if any have rust.
