Yep....the thread-end bypass one looks very similar to the SRT filter I used, but I think the SRT filter has a dome end bypass.

I havent tried a Wix yet, or a Fram Ultra. But seeing as how the RP is hard to find anyway, Ill use SRT, Fram Ultra or WixXP from now on.

After seeing this I'll never use an SRT filter

This is just 3 mos old, srt filter cut open by dodge dealer, HMMMMMMMMMMMM

SRT filter = Paper?

There is nothing wrong with the SRT filter if you arent stretching to a 10K OCI (which I am not).

Fram Ultra and WixXP are probably cheaper, the Fram is easier to get (well, once its safe to go to a walmart again).

I’ve never tried anything other than factory mopar filters, and i still don’t know what to go with as there isn’t clear enough evidence.

I’ve heard nothing but good about FRAM (US) but i’m scared to make the jump as i’ve seen yt videos saying that they’re bad oil filters too.

Royal Purple as previously mentioned looks horrible, not doing that.

SRT filters? Yikes too, esp for me with an extremely high mileage engine.

I’m gonna try FRAM once i can get outside and fix my torque converter, i’m kinda scared about it, but we’ll see. How does purolator boss stand up against fram?

Going to cut mine open at next oil change, because I could swear we saw cut open ones that WERENT paper.

Probably just switch to Fram Ultra next time anyway, but still interested to see whats really inside the SRT filter (or at least whats inside mine)

I plan to open mine up also. but not for a few months. I dont care if the srt is paper or not. I change my oil 3000 to 4000 miles or once a year.

I would like to see this too just for verification.

The guy that cut that open in the video works at www.stevewhitemotors.com which is a DCJR dealership in NC. He is a vendor on www.challengertalk.com and a major gearhead.

pretty much same....MAYBE I get up to 6K in a year and thats a stretch. This year will be much less (working from home indefinitely). I put 3K miles on mine between October 2019 and now.

This has been posted before but i cant find it. As it says this is from 2014 but here it is.

SRT engineer round table Q&A April 15, 2014

Q. A lot of owners are starting to use the SRT Viper oilfilter on their 5.7, 6.1 and 6.4 engines (SRT filter # 05038041AA). Is thereany advantage (or disadvantage) in using this filter vs. the standard Moparfilter?

A. The SRT Viper filter flows better than the stockPurolator filter and requires a higher differential pressure to bypass thefilter at cold starts and high demand (Meaning the SRT Viper filter bypassstays closed more often and filters more oil). Both filters will work on the5.7/6.1/6.4.
________________

When an SRT owner takes their vehicle to a driving eventwith the specific intent of exploring the far reaches of the performanceenvelope, they can rest assured that the 6.4-liter HEMI engine will sustain proper oil-pressures in extreme corneringconditions. For track-day use, SRT engineers suggest using the SRT oil filter(part number 05038041AA). Originally designed for Viper applications, it worksgreat with all Chrysler V8 engines. The SRT filter features a higherdifferential pressure bypass valve and reduced pressure loss across the filterelement
____________

"From the SRT Engineers:

The SRT oil filter for all the past engines and the new22mm inlet SRT filter for the Gen 4 and beyond engines share the samecharacteristics. We worked with many of the filter suppliers to get the bestfeatures. Some fell out for various performance reasons but we ended updeveloping the current SRT filters with one of the mainstream manufacturers (itis different than their commercial offerings - or at least was when wedeveloped it). The high flow oil pumps in our large engines (Viper is thebiggest) can overpower the internal relief valve. When this valve opens itallows some of the high pressure dirty oil to bypass the filter element inorder to keep the filter from being damaged. The SRT filters do indeed have ahigher differential bypass valve to make sure all the oil delivered to yourpowerplant is clean. The housing is slightly thicker than many of the brandsout there to handle the pressure but is not the thickest. The real thick onesfailed our development testing (fractured at the crimped flange). The mediaused was one of the latest synthetics that allowed very fine filtration, moredebris capacity, and much lower restriction than our standard Mopar filter (andjust about every other filter out there).

it’s paper, watch the video, it’s filmed at a DCJR dealership

Today i got into an accident, It was so bad that the tow truck driver said that in all other accidents he’s seen there no one has made it out alive. My truck jumped a curve and the only thing wrong with her is a flat tire. I swear to god, i will never buy anything but RAM.
