Has anyone cut out the hood vents in their hood? Does it help engine cooling? Is there a negative? Water on the computer or electrical distribution box?

If your having issues with high temps with your CTD, I'd be more concerned your terrorizing the transmission and/or turbo unless there is a problem with the engine cooling system.
As far cutting the hood vents out, anything under the hood should tolerate getting wet from water dripping on it.

You would need some sort of bead roller or metal fabrication to double over the cut edges of the vent. Those bare edges of the vent will be real sharp.

If you're having a cooling problem, cutting vents in your hood will not do anything.

I think Gr8bawana is right, holes in the hood will make little to no difference.

I run a grill cover on my CTD in the winter and into the spring, to lazy to stop and remove it sometimes, even when the weather is rather warm and my truck doesn't know the difference. If your truck is overheating, it is not something hood vents will cure. You should try cleaning the fins in the radiator, especially between the stacked cores. They can collect a lot of debris which will hinder air flow. If your truck is overheating only when towing, you might want to check that the fan clutch is engaging (217F). If the radiator is getting good air flow through it, the truck shouldn't overheat when driving empty unless the thermostat is defective and not opening.

There would be Zero benefit in doing this.

High performance cars and trucks do this all the time to improve cooling performance. It is more complex than just randomly cutting holes in the hood - but it works to reduce engine bay pressures which allows more air flow through the radiator.

The engine bay is not a sealed box. There is no pressure building under the hood that would hinder any air from flowing through the radiator.:hat:

I have an aftermarket CTD hood and the vents were open. I routed my CAI near the opening and I could tell a big wake up. As far as engine temps go, I never really paid that much to the actual temp, but I would say its about the same. Maybe slightly cooler, but nothing dramatic.
