I did something stupid yesterday. I gassed up and left without putting the gas cap back on and closing the cover... then up the block, I pulled into the drive through wash and when I got through it I then noticed the gas cap off! DANG!!!:banghead::confused:

I drove it to another store and then to the auto store where they said all I had to do was put in "HEET" and that would take care of the problem? I put in one can.

So, what should I do? Is HEET enough or should I have my mechanic drain the full tank?

The chances that any water got in is small.

There is a flap that the gas hose pushes away before gas goes in.

water is heavier then gas, it will fall to the bottom.

Probably only got minimal in the tank to be honest. Isopropyl alcohol is what I use when I'm worried about water dump 1/4 gallon in u should be good. We used it on the farm for years.

Can't get any Isopropyl alcohol anywhere due to the Coronavirus hoarding. So I used a bottle of HEET. I saw this while searching online, it backs up what your saying:

If normal HEET doesn't do the trick for you, go to Home Depot and buy a gallon of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol and dump that in the tank. Adding alcohol(like HEET) works because alcohol is miscible with water(unlike gasoline) and will actually bring the water into solution in the gas, which lets it go through the engine without stalling it. A gallon of isopropyl won't cost too much, and will be more than enough to take care of any water in your tank.
The chances that any water got in is small. There is a flap that the gas hose pushes away before gas goes in. water is heavier than gas, it will fall to the bottom.
Well, that's the problem, I just filled the "large" tank so since the water sinks to the bottom the problem won't show up until I get near empty... right? I was thinking of adding HEET again when it gets to quarter of tank.
Invest in a tethered gas cap.
The Ram truck gas cap is tethered, I had filled the gas tank, then took the gas hose to fill three 5 gallon cans, filled those and why I forgot to put gas cap back on. Still pretty stupid... won't happen again.

OFF TOPIC:
Major gripe about posting here, I notice when I post they add a yellow link in the middle of my post, just like my signature... and that yellow stands out like a sore thumb... why in the hell do they do that??? I can understand the ads in the top and sides, but in the posts?

See below:

Unless you’re one of the few buying gas without alcohol in it, you’ve got nothing to worry about. E10 already has ten percent fuel drying agent in it.
Can you explain please?
I gas up Fred Meyers as I shop there a lot and usually get 10 cents a gal off each time I gas up. I use the midgrade there. Sometimes I use Shell, (who supplies it to Fred Meyers) but it's usually at least .30 cents more a gal there.

I doubt you see any issues, but even if you did fuel is picked up from the bottom of the tank.

Good, be a shame to scratch up that beautiful truck, you do realize I was just yank'n your chain, right? ;)
Really nice truck friend.
You had a point though, I never drive my truck through those car washes that have brushes... got that habit from the five "former" Corvettes I've owned.

I love the blue on your truck... don't see many like that.:favorites13:

What I meant is that the ethanol in everyday gasoline absorbs water. The mixture will burn out just fine -assuming just small amounts of water of course. Water removal gasoline additives are basically the same thing and not necessary since the introduction of ethanol to fuel.

Assuming a 30 gallon tank, you’ll have 3 gallons of E in your tank. A 12 ounce dose or whatever you get from a bottle of Heet is insignificant. Of course the companies selling those additives don’t volunteer this information...
