Here is the scenario. My 2012 PW front brake caliper seized and this ruined my front brake rotors and brake pads. They are refusing to cover the rotors and brake pads. Has anyone had any luck getting a decision like this reversed. they are covering the new calipers. Dodge wants $1000 to replace the pads, rotors and fluid flush which is absurd.

Pads are not covered under any warranty I've ever seen. I may be wrong but that's considered a wear item like tires.

A brake fluid flush tho?!? Lmao they have to bleed the brakes anyways doing calipers so that seems like a waste of money.

The warranty document should describe what are wear items. Brake pads certainly are but check it for rotors, then you are armed for the warranty discussion. You may want to call Ram customer service depending on the warranty language.

Past experience is that getting brake pads and rotors covered under an extended warranty had been a no go. Generally exclusions are enforced regardless of what caused damage. You warranty documents will explain it all, see if you have some type of premium coverage. But maybe you can negotiate some type of good will response through FCA for the rotor and/or brake pads on damaged caliper side, or at least dealer cost for parts. Never stick with warranty representative, they generally work in the finance arm and spending money isn't their thing. Go to customer service at HQ and plead your case. Good luck

yeah, that don't seem fair. If the covered part cratered the wear items, then they should be included in the repair. As they wouldn't have been destroyed except for the covered part. Charge you to flush the system? Ha! thats not fair either. If they require the flush then they should do it, otherwise, just bleed the system for the new parts. Sounds like this is another test to see if RAMCARES shows up to save the day.

That blows, if able, try another dealer. I’ve learned they are not all the same when it comes to claims. Some will eat the cost to gain your business while others stick to the fine print. It seems though they’ve got you by the nuts if your rig is inoperable.. :/

That's true if they just wore out but in this case when it's obviously the seized caliper that caused it I think you'd have a case.Especially if the they had been serviced once in a while and the other 3 wheels were in good shape.

For around $500 - $600 you can buy new aftermarket pads, rotors and calipers from Brakeperformance or Powerstop. With install it would probably still be less than $1000 and you would have better stopping power.

Here's an observation:
My son has an automotive shop. On a vehicle that old (which isn't really "old) he would do a fluid flush if he were doing a complete brake job. I questioned this once on my 05 and he showed me the fluid that drained out. It wasn't pretty. With the amount of crud in there I'm sure the fluid no longer retained it's properties. Plus the particles will wear the pistons and sludge things up.

All I'm saying is don't be so quick to poo poo this procedure.

Should really be doing a flush every couple of years but nobody does.Usually just gets done when someone blows a brake line and that'd be just a partial.

Price the abs plumbing, controller etc. A flush is a good thing. Many people when doing pads just shove all that crap back into the master cylinder etc. Not me. Brake fluid is cheap!!

Err, rotors and pads are 1) dirt-cheap, and 2) drop-easy to replace.

I was a warranty admin for many years. Mopar certainly would cover the pads and rotors as long as the causal part is the caliper, but small minded service writers follow the wording that pads and rotors are wear items and not covered. It’s all in the wording, try another customer oriented dealer.

updated.... I stand corrected, Mopar doesn’t cover the pads and rotors no matter what. I also worked for Ford who would cover the pads and rotors if the caliper was the cause. Sorry for any confusion.

As a retired Mopar Service Manager, I fought that fight and usually lost. Because the Service Contract excludes consequential damage.

Not saying I don't flush my own but it's a hard sell to a customer.

Back in November 2017 I had my front calipers freeze and blow out the brake lines. I have the Lifetime Max Care and FCA covered the rotors, pads, MC, lines and fluid. Service advisor stated that if i brought him rear pads and rotors he would have tech swap those out as well. Total cost was the $100 deductible as I had lifetime pad and 2 year rotor warranty from Advanced Auto and had down the brake job in October of 2016.
