Anybody get noticeably more lift than advertised? I put mine on the 2.1 setting and for what looks like 3+ inches.

Did you measure before and after ?

Also, do you have the lower spring seat flipped upside down ?

Don't want to say something in the install was messed up but something tells me something with the install was messed up. Typically inverting the spring seats by mistake will cause the truck to shoot for the moon like that. Surprise nobody has claimed is another cheap way to go 4" front :) you will surprised at what some do to get there.

As BOWWRSFJ stated it looks like you put the spring perch back on the shock upside down. Can you post a picture of the spring perch on the shock?

I installed the bottom spring Seat with the narrow part facing down. Is that backwards?

I didn’t measure, but something isn’t right. And the ride is really stiff. If I did put the spring seat upside down, will it hurt to riddle on it until the weekend?

Yes that is backwards. The skinny side goes up. I am surprised you were able to compress the spring enough to get the strut back together lol.

That is an awful lot of pressure on the strut and possibly the upper ball joint, I wouldn't drive it like that.

You might want to double check the instructions when you pull them back apart and make sure you have the washer in the correct place too

Yeah. I started to look at pics and said ...well crap. Will it hurt to wait until Saturday to fix it?

Just edited my post,

Probably not a great idea to drive on it. That is a lot of lift so your axles are going to be at crazy angles, and you are putting a lot of stress on the upper ball joint.

Well good news is that you were able to break that lower strut bolt loose already. So second time should be easier LOL

Bummer though!

the cone shape helps hold the snap ring in place when the lower spring mount is installed as it was on the OE shock. The snap ring comes out you will probably wish you could rewind the clock real bad.

So got it all pulled off ...and put back on correctly. Funny how that makes so much of a difference. Lol. Thanks for all the help guys. ab598820235955e6ede7bbfd9cb94da7.jpg

FYI, Bilstein has a lifetime warranty to the original purchaser so keep your receipt. Also note that it will settle some from the 2.1 position too after a while (just in case you think it's a tad too high still).

My Pop just purchased a 2018 BigHorn with low miles. Driving it tells my how bad my shocks are on my 2014/w 100k miles. Will be ordering a set of Bilstein 5100 for mine soon.

If your truck is not lifted and you are not lifting it.... and just changing out shocks..... you will need to order the 4600s for the front and 5100s for the rear. Bilstein does not have a part number for front shocks for an unlifted Ram. I just changed out the Monroe’s I put on here about 6 months ago..... horrible ride with Monroe’s. The bilsteins are so comfortable and the ride is really awesome.

I just changed mine yesterday On my 12 1500 slt and the previous owner stripped the Allen slot on the top of one.. took a few hours but I finally had to cut the nut with a cutoff wheel. The 2nd one took about 20 minutes to take off the coil and unscrew the nut and install it on the new one. I noticed in the rear I have 5125-33-185569 not 5100.. what’s the difference? Length?
