The Fix
------------------

Wiper blade chatter is common in many cars even with new wiper blades. The first thing to do is look at the windshield wiper blades themselves.

Are they old, torn, stiff or dirty? If the wiper blades are more than one year old replace them—it will be money well spent.

With older cars the spring in the wiper arm may have become worn and not applying enough pressure against the windshield.

If the blades are in good condition try cleaning them. A paper towel and alcohol is a quick and easy way to clean the accumulated road grime off the blades.

Additionally, clean the windshield, accumulated wax from car washes and oil and other roadway contaminants that collect on the windshield can even make the best wiper blades chatter.

Finally if all this still doesn’t work, you need to look at how the wiper blades sit against the windshield. If the wipers blade angle is not perpendicular to the windshield, the wipers can chatter, a simple adjustment may be all it takes.

Ty For your comments. The blades are literally brand new I got them because I thought that was the problem. The Truck while it’s a 2017 bought with 0 miles August of 2018. Maybe I’m describing the noise incorrectly.

I had some noise that sounded like the linkage squeaking. I know it wasnt the blades because I lifted the wiper arms up and ran the wipers. Still made noise. Maybe start there so you can narrow down what's causing the noise. Don't have a fix though as it went away before I can take the cowl off.

Shouldn't this be covered under warranty ?

I wanted to put out a feeler here first to see if anyone else had the same issue before I started down that route. Bringing your truck in for warranty services is such a huge hassle.

I’ve got a 2017 Sport Night Edition. Same noise. Sounds like a distinct clicking noise coming from the wiper motor or where the arms are attached at the cowling. It can clearly be heard inside the cab. Almost sounds like the bolts came loose. Wipers track fine. It is not squeaking or groaning from the blades. Any updates?

Hey sorry been sick haven’t logged in for a while. Yes it was a bad wiper module and it was covered but I was 92 miles over my warranty. I have an extended warranty and just had to pay my deductible. Wow what a difference pissed at myself for thinking it was normal and not acting on it sooner ! The noise you described is exactly what I was hearing with mine.

Same issue on my 2017 ram sport, interesting noise, more of a creak/click noise at all times when wipers are in use, took about 50,000km for it to happen on my truck. replaced wiper linkage, came with motor, part number 5 in photo below

Unfortunately, I am on my third wiper assembly for this exact issue. Drives me crazy. The dealership is now keeping them in stock. 2019 3500 Limited

Anybody figure out what the exact issue was with the assembly? My warranty is almost expired and I’m going to the dealership soon. I don’t want to have to keep buying new wiper assemblies every 50,000 miles.

I had what sounded like the same problem as the op noted recently. Thought it was the wiper and when the wiper was replaced it was the same. Upon further investigation the passenger wiper arm spring was actually hitting the windshield whenever the wiper grabbed a little and there was a bit too much play in the arm itself. The fca tech adjusted the arm saying it looked installed wrong from the factory and tightened the arm a bit and now it's quiet. Told me if it did it again he'd order a new assembly, but so far so good. Run the wipers and stand outside watching as I couldn't see it from in the cab and it didn't do it every time. I just went for a coffee and it was done before I walked back so the visit wasn't much of an inconvenience.

I have 2017 and have the same noise. Although it seems to be louder at times and other times not so noticeable.

Took mine to the dealership and they said they could not replicate the noise. But they admitted only using the wiper fluid and wipers to replicate the problem. My problem only shows up when the wipers are on in rainy conditions longer than 5 or 10 mins. It’s documented now before my warranty is up, so I should be covered in the future. Might try listening from outside the cab of the truck like someone mentioned previously. Still a work in progress.
