My FM AM part of the 8.4 Uconnect radio does not work. If I replace the radio, will there be any reprogramming to be done?

Hi, I'm sorry to hear this. Please let me know if you plan on visiting a dealership for this concern. I would be happy to open a case for you.

You will need to obtain a 4 digit security pin for any replacement radio you receive. If you get the replacement used, you can get the security pin from the dealer that may or may not charge you for the service. There is also independent companies that provide a service usually in the $20 range to get you the security pin.

Replacement radio if a supported part number for your year should be basically plug and play with the security pin. There may be software updates on the Uconnect website that can be downloaded and flashed with a USB if needed.

Thanks. I have taken it to a dealer and they say the radio needs replaced. But $200.00 to install makes me want to install myself.

Thanks. I'll make sure to get the pin from the Dodge parts dept. when I purchase a new radio.

You are going to pay through the nose going through a dealer on a new one. Unless you just want the warm fuzzy of OEM replacement part warranty, it is way cheaper looking for a used one either from a salvage facility or even other companies online that take salvage or repair ones and refresh them for resale.

Also a good chance that any unit you get from the dealer may possibly be a refurb unit also and not a brand new manufacture unit. Given the change of the 8.4 radios in 2018, prior 8.4 replacement models may be out of manufacture and just refurbishment units only in the dealer supply chain.

Dealer cost is really high for the VP4 radios. Unless it is still covered un warranty.

Your best bet is to get one off of ebay or car-part.com. you can find them for around $400 to $500 dollars. The company's that supposedly re condition the radios and sell them for a small fortune don't do anything to them except clean them and update the firmware which is easy to do yourself. If your truck is a 16 or newer make sure you get a 16 to 17 radio. If your truck is a 13 to 15 you can use any VP4 NA from a 13 to 17 Ram or Jeep Grand Cherokee. As stated it's a plug and play once you have the 4 digit security code for the radio. If you have the vin# for the donor truck the dealer can get you the pin. Sometimes they are jerks about it. You can also easily get the pin without the vin# of the truck for $10 to $20 several places online. The security code is unique to each radio and stays with it no matter what vehicle it's installed in. One note is make sure you know the year of the radio and make sure you can see the sticker on the back of the radio that says VP4 NA. The NA stands for North America. If you live in the U.S. that's the radio you need.

I did UAS upgrade on my 2018, got it from a 2019 on car-parts. Was plug and play, got a harness from Mpgrimm2 to put back up camera from mirror to radio. Had to upgrade bezel also. Total time to originally install radio was about 15 minutes. If you already have 8.4 it was 6 screws, if you have to upgrade bezel it is a few more. Good luck.
