Guys, I'm looking to remove the current ICI Magnum drop steps I have on the truck for some power boards.

I've glanced at several, but figured I'd poll the crew here, see who had what, and go from there. I'm looking at them because everything else that tucks closer to the truck is also harder to use by my grandmother and my two small nieces. They don't get into it often, but I don't want to risk a fall (isn't that a valiant enough justification?). $1500 now is better than a hospital visit!

-Love the fact that they will be out of sight when up, and have a history - some good, some bad.

-The XL versions look clunky when up

-The extended drop and second step seems cool, but it looks like it would be pretty noticeable when up.

-Not a big fan of the magnetic switch design, even if it does leave my OBD port free for my CTS2.

- Better price point

- Magnetic switch

- Not sure if I want ROLLING BIG POWER plastered down the side of my truck

- Motors look more robust than the AMP steps

5th Gen MOPAR power boards

- OEM quality

- Similar price point ($12-1500)

- Would have to talk to someone about getting a custom harness made.

- Would need custom wiring.

Which ones do you guys have? Which ones work best for you? Any pros/cons?

I’m going to be doing the mopar factory power steps because you can get all the parts for $1200 easily. If you do go this route, they would have to be the ones for a 2019+ HD ram, not the ones for a 5th gen Ram. I did a detailed write up on building the harness for someone that added them, and it’s pretty easy. I’m not sure if we can get the power steps settings menus to show up in the radio or EVIC like they do on the 5th gens, but they should work properly on their own without the settings.

Jimmy, pm me some details. Do you have a link to that wrote up?

After some research, I’ll be either MOPAR or RBP. I’m not keen on the magnetic switches, but they seem to be the most robust, carry a 5 year warranty, and are the simplest to install from what I’ve seen.

I went with amp steps and very happy with them. I did the hard wire version because I didn't want to take up the OBD port like that version does and the hard wired is bullet proof.

I did not like the way the RBP's connected up and I didn't want to be a mobile advertisement for them with that big logo on them. It's tucked up under so might not see it all the time but just didn't like it. Screams 20 year old kid custom blinged out truck to me.

PM Nick@GotExhaust for a better price on the amps, that link you posted is pretty expensive and I got a better deal through him.

Love my AMP steps. 4 years no issues look nice. I've installed several of these on friends trucks and they all work great.

I have Had amp on two of my trucks. Amp customer service is the best. I bought A used set for my old tundra They were missing A few small parts. I called amp up to order them. They said no problem. I then asked them how much and they said no charge and then they even paid for shipping. What company does that these days. Also I think they were the first to make the power steps.

For those who have answered and will answer/respond, who lives in a snow state? For those of us who deal with snow and ice, that feedback would be great as our conditions do not exactly compare to Arizona (no offense).

Thanks guys for all the feedback! I’m going to do more research for sure. The only way to get the beefier motors and 3” of additional drop is to spent 1800+ on the AMP steps from what I’m seeing.
