So I recently bought a 2014 Ram 1500 Tradesman with @ 52K miles on it (Hemi 5.7) in pretty good shape and plan to mod/update over the next year or so. Setting aside things for purely visual appeal, what mods/upgrades would you NOT do since the original equipment is done well? From my early research you can mod/upgrade just about everything but I imagine there are some things that you just want to leave as stock...

Tuners aren't going to help your truck's longevity at all, especially if you have the 6 speed transmission.

If you put glare cannons in your headlights I'm gonna know everything I need to know about you when I see them.

Spacers on top of your front struts (unless part of a comprehensive 4" or more lift) are a good way to wreck your upper ball joint and cv axles. (4x4 specific)

Intake mods other than vararam won't give you any power at all and strictly reduce the amount of money you have.

Save your money. Don't do any.

One many talk about is a Cold Air Intake. Not worth it.

Go to a junk yard and look at some trashed trucks and remember they all end up there so don't spend what you don't need.

Don’t do a muffler delete without a proper muffler delete replacement.

I had to undo a “Joe Bob cousin F’er” cheapo delete and put in a proper muffler (Carven Progressive). Just undoing the poorly welded and sawzalled mess was a giant pain. Now my truck sounds like a truck at WOT and also quiet while cruising so I can hold a conversation in the cab.

Don't do cosmetic things.eg fender flares, brake caliper covers, chrome anything.

Do mods that are functional like lights, tune , lift, tires, stereo.

Setting priorities, that i can't do for you

@misfit77 I have to disagree with some cosmetic mods.

Fender flares are a potential paint saver depending on wheel/tire set up.

Deleting chrome and replacing with black would be a better compromise aesthetically, but dependent upon trim level as some levels have chrome so it all works together (not so much on Outdoorsman, Sport or Express).

Wheels are cosmetic technically but also functional, so choose wisely in size and color depending on the build of the truck (mall crawler on 24x14s, work truck staying OEM, cruiser/street 2WD truck on 20-22x10-12s on low pro tires, or a nice off-road build on 17/18/20x9-12 on 35-37” tires).

Just to name a few. But OP it’s your truck and your money, so do as you wish. Just make sure you plan out and are happy with the outcome.

1. Upgrade lighting but do it properly. Ie. Retrofitting hid or picking up some sports/Laramie projector housing and adding hid bulbs in them. Dont add glare kits.

2. Dont lift unless you can afford to do it properly with a complete system including upper control arms. You can level it if you like with bilstein shocks.

3. Dont run big ass aggressive AT tires and complain about mpg.

4. Get a catch can and avoid idling.

Don’t get cheap window tint. Pay extra for the ceramic version.

If you are going to buy something and you have doubts. Ask the group.

I totally disagree, life's too short to drive a stock vehicle. Mod the max out of it like you own it clear and free!

My suggestion is to do a full maintenance check first. After that I would find (2) things that you can’t deal with and address those.

Haha Like most actually use a lifted truck that NEEDs to be lifted and bigger tires vs Damn that is one sexy truck.
Bet a good number lifters haven't seen dirt or gone places that the lift actually worked even it was just to get bigger tires (main reason to get a lift in the first place).

By the time I was done, I had the total cost of the truck haha
