DL ,Great work ! And No way in heck would I try that lol
The big branch on my Ash tree that was damaged during the storm starting sagging more and more :O Since it would drop on over 1/2 the driveway I had to get it down :O ! I am breaking in the chainsaw Pole saw a lot lately lol Glad the chain saw comes off the pole to use separate as my Husquvarna saw would not start :O First time the old gal let me down :(
Like with other tree clean up I cut into firewood length and put by side of the road , since I do not burn wood I know someone can :) And longest the last 3 pile was 3 days :O This time as I was stacking the wood a truck drives by and beeps :O turns around and pulls in ! Turns out someone I have not seen in a few years ! SO loaded the roadside stack and loaded the pile in the yard :) SO saved me hauling that lol SO a good busy day,hot and man did not think I could sweat that much lol
You all have a good night Stay Safe !

I’ve posted in some other threads- but here it is again. I LOVE driving it and it looks great! I hope this inspires others as to what is possible.

I had everything out of the cab...

Here is a pictorial progression.

I just noticed you did something unique with the cup holder opening... what did you do? Looks like some gauges and lights or buttons? I still have my cup holder but don’t plan on using it.

Yeah, so my truck is a diesel. The knobs and the switch tune certain aspects of the fuel and turbo, and the gauge monitors the overall pressure in the system. It is a good place for auxiliary switches though. Just a simple piece of steel from Lowe’s. I used a piece of cardboard to make the template, and used the existing screw holes in the bezel for mounting points. I also added a mechanical oil pressure gauge to that little cubby just to the left of it.

Nice. And did the ashtray disappear with the radio install? Looks like a cubby under the radio now.

Yup. It’s a double din radio actually. Got the kit from Crutchfield. Relocates the cigarette outlet to the left. I had to add about 6” of wire to the cigarette outlet to make it so the bezel could come off to unplug the harness. efa6d8323bb9393fac8e19f772d6d28d.jpg

I'm an old part man from 1967 till today Basically . Bondo by BRAND Is the original but it's the worse of the all. I've sold ''PUCKY'' by the gallon for 2.95 a gallon back in the days .
It's all nicknamed Pucky .. All except Bondo .
... But you should all try some Bondo & Then try some of the new Puckys . They are a dream to work as compared ..
I liked that thought of using some dynamite on the back side . & That tip of mixing ACETONE & PLASTIC now I like that also .
.. Back when I was also in college we had a plastic plant that stood in & helped a lot in our classes . Industrial Technology .Degree.

My 2002 2500HD dash completely imploded on the drivers side...first. So, as previously mentioned I used Gorilla 2-part epoxy and glued tabs to the underside of remaining dash..let that epoxy set then slathered the remaining portion of that tab with epoxy and dropped the broken pieces on top of those tabs. From a distance it looked ok, up close...looked like a jigsaw puzzle. Now the passenger side has completely imploded. LMC got the call, so this will be, as many have found out, the biggest DIY job ever. Heater core will be replaced as well. Truck has 138,430mi. on it, so better this repair than a new truck payment. I bet it comes apart alot easier than it goes back together....LOL. I'll never understand why there wasn't a recall on these dashes...plenty of lawsuits, just no recalls! I will start praying now for paitence....I'll need it.

I recommend downloading the service manual for your truck. It’s probably available on the forum someplace. I followed that pretty much exactly. I used colored zip ties and colored electrical tape to mark EVERY connection I demated.
I kept a list of hardware, with a number and description of where they came from, and put the hardware in numbered baby food jars and old prescription bottles. Really helped in reassembly. What looks obvious when you are taking it apart- not so obvious when you’re putting it together!
Good luck and keep us posted!

Also - if you need any of these dash nuts, I have a few that I’ll send to you. They were given to me by El Huapo of this forum. Those are available at Gino’s Garage but are pricey!

The nut does not fit with the hole shown- which is the middle fasten point on my dash, but does fit the side dash attach points. My old ones were dry and brittle.
PM me if you would like the ones I have left.

A few heads up that caused me some heartache...
When removing the heater box, take special note of the vacuum line routing, and copy it when you reinstall. I kinked a line closed and had to remove the box. Also- firewall gaskets where heater tubes and a/c tubes come in- make sure those aren’t scrunched and are in the right position. Mine has a vacuum hose coming through that opening and I wish I had positioned that more intentionally.
Recommend purchasing the dash felt pad kit ( little felt stickies from LMC that will keep things from squeeking . I have some squeeks that are kind of annoying. I’m going to try to fix them from “the top”!

wow. I just stumbled upon this thread and I'm glad I did. My dash isn't all that bad, but the top piece is completely broken into pieces. It's all covered with a carpet, fine for now, but one day I gotta fix that.

A question to those who managed to replace the whole dash: how much time does it take for a moderately skilled person to get it done? Any major things to pay attention to (things you wish you knew before you heard that crack while pulling something)?

I recommend following the disassembly/assembly instructions in the service manual. It does a great job pointing out all the connections.
I listed some pitfalls above.
Make sure to use the felt pads where you attach plastic to plastic or you’ll get squeaks.
Mark all demates, Mark all hardware.
Easy Peasy![emoji38]
