Hello to all. I just picked me up a brand new 2020 ram 2500 cummins and was wondering if anyone has done any performance mods yet? If so what MPG are you getting? Better regeneration cycles? Let me hear your thoughts.

There are no "easy" mods you can do to gain anything so don't waste your time or money. Even a full delete on these late model trucks isn't going to gain much mpg. It will certainly void your warranty though so I would think real hard about that.

Congrats on the new truck though

Congrats on the new truck! The best mods I’ve found are proper maintenance to keep it in tip top shape.

I went this route on my 2020 3500 HO and very satisfied. My brother did the same on his 2016 HO and he too is very satisfied. Haven't had enough miles to give any mpg data but all other aspects are great as is the install and tune changing.

I just got my ezlynk tuner with duramaxtuner from calibrated power today. Definitely can feel a difference. I like it for sure!

My 2019 6.7 has about 6500 miles. No towing yet. Typical mileage has been 18.5 - 20 mpg mixed highway and city. The computer is always off by about 2 mpg.

John, couple of questions you are a great knowledge source. Are you worried about warranty issues? is the install of this upgrade just plug and play or do i have to purchase a number of cables? I just had the transmission update done at the dealer. Can i squeak by with my standard 68 tranny as long as i am n ot abusing it?
thanks

The evic reading is a feel good gauge. In my 6 Chrysler vehicles they have always been off 1-2 mpg when hand calculated. There are many debates on this forum about the accuracy but these are my experiences dating back 20 years.

Any tune can void your warranty. I am not worried as the Cummins has a great history. If I have a failure that can be related to the tune I'm probably gonna pay. That said, before I go to the dealer I return the tune to stock. While the dealer can detect the number of flashes he may or may not make an issue. Bottom line I'm risking the warranty but I'm willing to take the gamble.

The tune install is plug n play, using their smartphone app and wifi. Yes, you need their bypass cable, it's 35.00.

It sounds like you have a 10-speed tranny. Part of their tune is also tuning that tranny for better performance with their tunes. The engine tunes with that tranny are a bit lower HP increases vs the Aisin tunes. You get 5 tunes, race, sport, 2 levels of towing and stock. Any updates are free.

Suggest you also look at their web site and/or call them as they are very helpful.

Have emissions come a long way on modern diesels? Are they become reliable again?

They are fairly reliable, but like anything parts can fail.
The newer trucks use DEF injected into the SCR which helps eliminate NOx emissions and allows for fewer EGR events (which used to be the only way to do that). Hence they get better mpg then the older EGR only trucks and why deleting doesn't gain you a whole lot. A little maybe but not a lot.

If you get on the book of faces all the kids are screaming "you have to delete" but honestly real problems are few. They do happen but not nearly as often as people seem to think they do.

With a new 2020 and the potential for a CP4 pump failure (which could cost $$$$$$$) I surely would not delete and lose the warranty for what little gain you would achieve. Down the road when the warranty is out and "if" you start having issues that's when I would look into deleting.
