Just a reminder to y'all in the west this is a great time to be washing, drying and waxing your trucks to keep them shiny for years to come.

Stay safe.

Yup, my wife's car is fine because I had a good fresh coat of ceramic on it with griots 3 in 1, but I didn't have a coat on the truck. I thought 4 days would be ok, I didn't want to have to wash it every day so I waited til the ash stopped falling, and yup got paint damage from the ash. Will need machine polishing this summer. You have to wash this **** off your car, and best of all make sure you have a coat of wax. But, even with wax don't leave it on for too long.

Messed up the plastic pieces as well. It was like someone took a can of texture and sprayed in everywhere. I wonder what else is damaged. No need for fertilizing this year, ha.

Sorry to hear that Burla. How far from the fires are you? Be safe and don't delay evacuating if they're getting close.

Yeah I'm in the middle of the new fire zones in Sonoma county. Every year we are within twenty miles, and have had friends lose their homes. Our best friends finally got their home rebuilt, took 3 years. Our friends drove through the fire in 2016, they didn't even have time to open the garage where their brand new Mercedes was. All the saved was their third vehicle parked in driveway and themselves. They lost everything else. So far so good, the fire fighters are amazing, they put out every fire, hard to believe considering what happened in years past.

I'm just south of Portland, OR and it's TERRIBLE. Looks like it might start getting better here soon though. One of my ex-in-laws lost his house. Another they're not sure yet as they are still evacuated.

Pretty much the entire city of Detroit, OR was wiped out. It is/was a vacation town with an awesome lake and camping. Many other towns were totally leveled as well. Parts of the city directly across the river from me were evacuated. We were on standby but it never got too close and is/was very unlikely to jump the river.

The air quality is the worst thing I've ever seen/felt.

I took off my shirt the other night and it smelled strongly like smokey scotch.

Stay safe over there, just remember stuff is replaceable but people are not. If there was way to get water across the country, there's several trillion gallons extra in Lake Superior alone.

Good advice for paint damage to your car/truck, thanks, hadn't thought of that.

Here's one for your lungs---inside your house/shop can get smokey in fire-prone areas, so take a box fan, tape a regular house air filter to it and run at low speed. It will greatly improve your breathing air. Mine is running constantly, I'm in one of "Those" areas too. I have a 20" fan so the 20"X20" house filter fits right on it.

I am just North of Portland, the air quality is horrible, worst I have seen since mid 90's (besides the Gorge fire) I hear it's supposed to start raining tomorrow and for next few days. Can't wait :). Stay safe everyone.

Yes 3 years is about normal for a total rebuild so sorry to your friends

I think we're getting there.... I walked out of a house I was working at up in NW Portland today about 4PM and got a good shot of sun. First I've seen it in at least a week.

EVERYBODY
in the fires or hurricane Sally, be safe. Don't wait to evacuate when things are expected to be bad. I enjoy this forum which means I enjoy the members, we would hate to hear anyone is injured. Get out early, houses and...., it's tough to say this :( but, your Rams are replaceable.

:cheers::cheers:

lol I haven't seen the sun in a month, yeah no kidding.

I hand water my fruit trees, well even after 4 days of 80f temps, the plants are still wet, crazy? Ten minutes of sun would bake the surface, but still wet. I have no idea where the smoke is coming from, the fires close to me have been out maybe a week or so. I have been in wild fires now 4 years, never seen anything like this one. These fires are early, so the marine layer is mixing with it, thus we are seeing stuff like orange skies and wild wet ash on everything.

gotta wax your truck and wash it often.

just washed mine maybe two days ago, needs another wash tomorrow.

1st let me say those in the path or general vicinity of any of these disasters, be safe and get out early if you can. I know you are facing some extreme challenges as upstate New York has had cloud cover like overcast for a couple of days and it has been keeping the day time highs down by 2 to 5 degrees. The haze / /cloud like cover is smoke from the fires. As for the box fan and filter concept, its a great idea to provide extra air filtration to you home and an even better idea if you have anything other than forced hot air as hot water and other systems do not filter the air. If you get one of the higher quality or HEP filters it will trap the particulates. just remember to keep it running or bag it in a trash bag when you go to shut it off to keep those particles contained and not dumping a heavy load where the fan and filter were sitting.

Be safe and good luck to all of you.

When I was working in CA there were huge expensive court battles on the methods to prevent these large fires. At one point, LA was surrounded on three sides but active fires. Spent more time at the beach if the winds were onshore.
