My girlfriend has been a fan of the system in my Ram so I decided for her birthday I’d try to custom build her a setup. Going in a BMW 330i, 10” JBL WS1000. Never done any fiberglass work firsthand so we will see how this goes.

Appreciate it! I’m just now getting the technique down on the third layer. Gave up trying to use gloves and stay completely clean lol.

I finally popped it out of the mold today but didn’t snag any pictures yet. that was a huge pain that I didn’t anticipate due to the vacuum that was created between the two and the masking tape actually holding on well. My idea for tomorrow is to get another two layers on and mount in the trim ring I will use to secure the top. Not really rushing because the amp won’t be here till like the 15th. So far soaking the surface, laying the cloth, then dabbing it down with the brush again seems to be the best method. I cut the cloth into about 5x5” squares.

I put in some little wood pieces to mount the top to initially, then I will fiberglass over the edges too I think. Test fit the top and got the sub fitted. Amp actually showed up today (a week early) so now I’m in overdrive.

Got the box itself finished and shaped. Put 2 layers on this morning to try and make a smooth transition between the box and the lid. Gonna sand once it’s dry in a couple hours, then coat it with bed liner. Was gonna put carpet on the top but figured since it’s going under the floor anyways it would be fine just covered with bed liner. If all goes to plan,
I’ll have the enclosure done and the car wired up today. Box goes in tomorrow for its final home.

I ended up wrapping the top with some carpet, realized that would be the best aesthetically. Of course as I finish the project and am ready to drop everything in, the car has to get a new radiator hose as it broke when she was driving the other day. So whenever she gets it back and I have time away from school this week I’ll drop it all in and post more pics.

Nice work! It's looking really good now. Very complete! Only makes me itch more for doing a stereo!

I highly recommend it! I enjoyed the stock system in my 2010 but I’ve always done the upgraded route. I have two 12s with a aftermarket head unit in mine now. Upgraded tweeters as well. Have yet to do the doors lol.

So tonight when the gf went to dinner with her friends I did the install. Entire enclosure is a tad too tall because the floor won’t lay flat so I’m gonna route out the mounting area for the sub and have it sit in a recess. Little annoyed but overall it works like a charm and will be very inconspicuous. Honestly was way easier wiring this thing up than my Ram, even with the tiny working spaces. Amp sits in a few aluminum “L” brackets I made so it won’t slide around or move. All wires will be beneath floor and not visible.

Nice!!! This type of project and pictures just make it so hard not being able to do! Spent a lot of time towing this past few days and just driving slow which is a lot of radio time for me. Really reflecting on the weak and watery sounds of stock setup in my tradesman.
