so my truck (photo is signature) had issues staying in overdrive even on flat hwy. was getting consistent 15.5 MPG no matter if i was doing 65 mph or 80 mph. Im still planning on going to 4.56 gears being as im running a 33" tire on 20s. That said today was my first trip to Houston for my CDL training. 200 mile round trip. today was the best mpg i've seen out of the truck at 17.8 mpg. this was cruising at 75 to 80 mph the whole way both ways (cruise control not working atm) The truck not once kicked out of OD, not even for overpasses. I could actually accelerate from 55 to 80 (slowly ofcourse) in overdrive. before it would not even hold a steady speed on overdrive.
the only change was a tonneau cover. I AM NOW A BELIEVER. i only added it for looks and to not worry about light loose things like grocery bags. i have always heard they make a difference but never noticed with any other truck i've owned in the past. that said i've never (until now) owned anything this underpowered for it weight class.
everything is 100% stock, 3.55 gear. 4 speed auto. no issues other than clock spring in steering column making cruise control not work. 175k miles
