many people have recommended I see you about tuning, at some point this year I should be installing a cam and ported heads on my 06 5.7.

My question is, can I order the tuner (DS trinity) and the tune for it at the same time, just by giving you the specs of the cam and heads and other mods, or would you need data logging before making a tune? I'm trying to get by with as little downtime as possible, since my jeep is not really DD worthy.

I'm planning on installing the cam and heads in one day, and would love to be able to get it done, then just load the tune and go.

I have base tunes for most of the cams out there. I'd need a datalog after my cam tune was installed. I always recommend the comp 268 on the 5.7. Which cam are you going with?

I was planning on going a little further than the 268, Since I'll be swapping heads to ported big valve, I was gonna go ahead with the "go big or go home" mantra.

Ive been looking at the arrington ST-3A. Ive seen it in 6.1 applications, is it overkill for a 5.7? what about the comp 273?

I see folks struggle making good ET's with the cams bigger than the 268. Seems they need the 4200# race weight, 3000 converter, 4.56 gears, etc.

I agree. I don't know anyone with a 273 that has been able to outrun many of the 268 setups. The 268 can make great power with the right supporting mods and a proper tune. It will also be much more reliable.

Even with the 268 and bigger the converter seen to work best is a 3400. I believe my truck has been the truck to run best with a cam bigger than a 268 cam.

Many doubt bigger cams but if u get the best supporting mods to match it will make a great set up and break records. I only issue is transmission with bigger stalls. ;(

Yeah I was worried with the ST-3A that I might be pushing it out of DD ability with the needed stall and idle, didnt realize the 273 was that agressive.

So with the supporting mods, the 268 is a good platform. I was already planning on 4.56 gears and a sharadon valve body, would it be best to go to a higher stall converter for the 268, or is it not really worth it?

Hate to hit yall with all these questions, but I work on nissans mainly, and most of the guys I work with just stare blankly at an OHV V8....

Yes, I would definitely upgrade the converter for the 268. A tq converter is almost a necessity for me these days. Even with the stock cam, you will see major gains with a converter. With the 268 raising your powerband a couple hundred rpms, the converter just becomes even more important. I like a 3000 stall for the 268. Combine that with the 4.56's and it is going to be a monster down low that wont stop pulling until you shift at 6500.

Alright, and it looks like you guys sell such a converter. does the 268 really make power to 6500? I was reading some dyno charts from some tests of other cams and except for the big cams, nothing was really making power past 6.

You want the higher shift point because it will give you a higher recovery rpm...this will keep you in the meat of the powerband throughout the run. Sean will be able to take care of this for you, and he may have a different preference as far as shift points go. For me, I would want it shifting between 6200-6500.

Ok I see, I'm just in the process of saving for the heads then I'll start sourcing everything. Is the base circle of the 268 the same as stock or will I need longer pushrods? I know I'll need better than stock and I have that covered.

You are going to want longer pushrods as well as new valvesprings. I went with the Manley setup when I installed my Crane 216 (very similar to the 268).

I don't remember the exact length...I want to say I used the Manley 6.1 pushrods, but I will dig that info up for you.

Do you have the tune for a TSP stage 2 N/A hemi cam?
