I was tired of looking at the upper cubby hole.

To me, it looked like the door was missing or something. It looked incomplete, and I never used it because stuff wouldn't probably stay in it, and it would look dumb anyway, so I bought an upper glove box assembly. I think it looks a lot better. I can't start car work without a beer, hence the cheap High Life in the first photo.

I went all fancy pants.

I don’t understand why Ram even designed 2 different styles. How much does it REALLY cost Ram to install the upper glove box on every Ram from the factory.

This totally belongs on r/assholedesign

And we all know that RAM isn't going to eat the cost, they will absofrickenlutely pass the cost on to the consumer!

Its all about status/profit. They dint want you to buy the cheap express model. They want to sell the pricey versions like longhorn or whatever.

Living the High Life I see...

I use my cubby all the time, now that I have a non-skid piece of material on the bottom ( a piece of tool box liner I cut out for it). When I first got the truck it was annoying because things would fly out of it, but now they stay put.

I also usually save the beer until after I do a project so I don't screw it up

I'm sure that helps. Probably a good idea if you choose to use it. To me it looked like it was broken, like a door should have been there, but was missing.

Changing the glove box was a 15 minute affair, a 1 beer job, so it went smooth. I am a professional beer drinker so I could have easily done it after a 12 pack of more. Lol!

My Tradesman came with that hole n the dash . So I bought the glove box to put in it. Well the truck got totaled and my new RAM has it . So if anyone wants one make me a reasonable offer for a brand new one. I paid 273 for it. I have all the bolts and everything you will need to buy nothing else.

$168 for mine,went in real easy

I did the same thing on my previous '12. I"m a bit OCD and wouldn't put anything in it because I hated seeing clutter, so it was also wasted space. A great, reasonably priced mod.

I added the door in my 14. I couldn't stand looking at stuff in it . It just looked unfinished when empty and sloppy with most anything in it. Now my 17 Sport has a console and I can only put certain things in it so it looks organized and not sloppy. Sucks to be this way but gotta live with it.

I did that with my 2013 2500. Easy job.

Just ordered the upper glovebox kit. Excited to get it installed.

It completely changes the look of the truck. The first thing you notice in the Tradesman/Express is the big hole where the glove box should be. Everyone knows I have upgraded pretty much every piece of my truck. The upper glove box with light was the first mod I did on the truck less that two weeks after I bought it. Ridiculously expensive for what you actually get when you buy the kit new but couldn't stand the hole from day one.

I totally agree. I’ve had my truck since Dec. 2016 and I was putting modifications on it literally the second I first got home with it. I focused on the exterior to make it look cool, and I didn’t upgrade anything in the interior. It wasn’t until about June of this year that I finally started upgrading my interior because I was just so sick of how cheap it felt inside. I swapped in 2015 heated + cooled black leather seats and at the same time swapped my middle jump seat for a center floor console. Around that same time I also ordered the 12.1” Tesla style android radio, which finally got delivered and installed about 2 weeks ago. Now I ordered the upper glove box setup and next, I will be replacing my roof liner with black roof liner and installing the overhead console as my rcsb express is just roof liner and there is no overhead console and it’s super annoying that the only light in my truck is by the back window, what idea designed that?!?

Point of my post is, I focused on the exterior for so long but now I am more focused on the interior because I want the features, luxury and comfort of a higher trim model. Priorities change as the years go on LOL. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve also spent like $3k on exterior stuff for my truck within the last 2-3 months too lol. I’ve gone a little crazy with buying stuff for my truck lately.

It is definitely easy to get carried away but it's fun to do it yourself sometimes. I literally have every option available in my Express except park assist. I have added Heated/Vented memory seats with custom made upholstery from Leather Seats.com, heated wheel, memory adjustable pedals and mirrors, auto dim rear view, driver and passenger mirrors, auto high beam, rain sensing wipers, premium 7" speedometer, remote start, push button start, proximity entry, cargo cam, backup cam, factory trailer brake, true Dual Zone ATC, full 8.4 RA4 radio upgrade, factory CD player, SD card option media hub, power sliding rear window, homelink ....the list goes in. As far as the outside I tinted the side windows and installed the black B pillar trim. I installed Laramie headlights and tail lights, tow hooks and changed the grill. Installed a 6" BDS lift with 35 inch tires and 20x10 Fuel Hostage wheels. I'm a little older so I kinda like the cleaner look. I'm not much into the graphics and tricked out switch backs ect so my truck might not look nearly as modified as it actually is. There are tons of trucks that are majorly modded on this forum but what mods you do all depends on what you're into. I just like figuring out crapp the dealer and others say you can't do....I will say out of every mod I have done the Push Button start with Proximity Entry is by far my favorite. I can't believe how quickly I got spoiled to just grabbing the door handle the truck unlocks and I get in and push the button. My fob never leaves my pocket. Big shout out to @Jimmy07 for figuring that one out! The heated vented seats and heated wheel are a close second.

Rick Ram, where did you get your push-to-start? Also how had was the factory CD option to install. I changed out my center console and it has a cd player, but the option ins't on the 8.4" head unit.

I had the cubbyhole in my old truck,and now the glovebox in this truck.I actually preferred the cubbyhole ,so did the wife as she could set stuff in it when we'd go out for an evening tour."No" i'm not gonna sell or trade the glovebox ,just saying i liked the cubbyhole better,lol
