I have used 5W-30 in my truck since the first oil change. I know you prefer to stay 5W-20 but I still think the QSUD is a good choice if you want a synthetic that meets specs, keep it on your list to consider anyway.

I may try that stuff, or I may just go back to PUP. How is PUP compared to QSUD? I thought about trying Royal Purple too. Does it pass Chrysler spec and Is api certified?

Any of y’all heard of this stuff? Looks like it’s API certified and has the Chrysler spec....

I’m also considering Royal Purple as well, and may just stick with a Amsoil filter since I read on either bob is the oil guy or 5th Gen rams that the RP and Amsoil 15k filter were internally identical. Thoughts?

QSUD is good stuff! Has a good amount of Moly, it’s cheap and readily available at Walmart. Not a fan of PUP personally and it’s hard to source locally and more expensive unless you find it on sale. Supposedly PUP has tri-nuclear MOLY thus the low MOLY count compared to QSUD, Redline and even Shell Gas Truck. My previous Ram had nothing but PYB and PUP in it for 32K miles and still had cam/lifter problems so that’s why I’m no longer a fan but plenty of guys still swear by it so take my opinion however you like. If you want my opinion give the QSUD a shot and see what you think.

I personally don't like RP because they are way too obsessed with the gimmicky purple dye. And it really doesn't stand out vs other off the shelf oils like PUP or QSUD. But they do have an API licenced oil with the MS-6395 spec.

The liquimoly seems to be a good oil, it's just imported. Other than that I don't know much about it....

What’s with the purple dye in the first place? Is it the purple dye what makes them think it’s a good enough oil to cost as much as it does?

The only instance I know of where somebody has tried royal purple and didn’t like it, was my ex father-in-law, when he used it in the 383 stroker that he had in his 69 Chevy pick up… he claimed it made his engine leak I guess from how well that stuff cleans things and I guess rejuvenates gaskets and seals but other than that, that’s all I know of.

But yeah, I was just curious if anybody you guys ever heard of the other stuff.

Nope.

It was a comment.

And a damned good one.

Again, doesn’t answer my question a bit except maybe give me a little bit of idea you don’t do foreign or imported stuff. Duly noted.

I think you should stay with an API / MS6395 spec oil if you are worried about a failure while you're under warranty.

That’s what I’m gonna do, and probably why this one and only time that I’m using the Amsoil signature series will be the only time I use it because to my knowledge it’s Chrysler spec, but it’s not API certified so yeah, those two certs is what I’m looking at. That’s why I asked about that LiquiMoly because it says that it’s both Chrysler certified and API certified, and it was voted as best overall pick here.

https://atvaonline.com/best-oil-for-5-7-hemi/

But look, it’s not that I’m worried about having a failure, OK? All I’m looking for, it’s just thoughts and opinions on what probably would be the best 20 weight, full synthetic motor oil. And yes, I know; on y’all’s minds, there probably is no good or best 20 weight because you guys know the facts that 30 weight is better but see here’s the thing; I can’t use 30 weight because I don’t wanna go against my warranty (
just in case something were to happen but I would like to use a 20 weight that would have a really good additive package in it that would offer the best protection for what it is.

So far the PUP seemed OK but I figured since the moly only being 52 ppm in it, I figured there was something out there that be better than that without having to add anything to it since I was told a long time ago that it really ain’t a wise idea to add stuff to oil because oils were designed to have what they have in it.

That’s why I said basically long time ago; if I was worried about it, and wasn’t worried about becoming a statistic, and I would just take it to the dealer, let them do the oil changes and be done with it. If something happened, then something happens and I get it fixed under warranty… Or if I was that worried about something ever happening but not being worried about my warranty at all, I would just do like what most of y’all do and run either the 5W-30 pup or the 5W30 red line and hope like crazy I never had an issue but I’m kind of in between all that, I just want to run a really good 20 oil that will hopefully keep me out of the shop while satisfying my warranty.

Try the QSUD 5W20, push come to shove you can substitute or add a little Lubeguard as needed. Only you and GOD will know. If your engine has problems, they’ll tear it down first and if it’s clean as a whistle inside they will not look any further and take care of it no problem.

I thought that QSUD had quite a bit of moly in already?

It does, at least double maybe 2.5 times as much. Most PUP 5W20 is around 60-80 ppm and I believe QSUD 5W20 is around 150 or so. I only suggested the Lubeguard if you needed a touch more Moly. Its not a necessity if your engine is quiet without it. My engine was quiet as a church mouse on it I just wanted the extra protection of Redline. I have the lifetime warranty as well but would prefer not to ever use it.

So please Murph consider Nanny state oil will ya?

I'm so tired of this nanny State BS.

I've been pushing back for decades, and now it's really silly. Our Governor has closed many bars and restaurants AGAIN in an attempt to lock down the State, but this time people are pushing back and actually staying open. It's about damned time.

Push back, people.

Found a set of aftermarket lifters that claim to have "axial oiling". They're pricy but if they prevent cam/lifter failures they might be worth the $750 they want for them if a cam/lifter swap becomes necessary....

I wonder if that's the same Johnson that made adjustable tappets for flathead Fords? I used to have a Johnson tappet wrench for flatheads in my toolbox, but can't find it. Must have lent it out.
