Hey Gents,
I'm new to the forum and fairly new to Dodge Ram's so my knowledge isn't great on what will swap over from year to year.
I have an '06 1500 2WD, 5,7. I was looking into what I needed to make it 4WD and found that the easiest way is to buy a donor truck and swap what I need.
I've found a 2002 4X4 with the 4.7 overhead cam engine. My question is, will the 4WD parts swap over to my 2006? If not, will my 5.7 bolt up to the transmission in the 2002?

I know there will be some control/wiring to deal with if I go that route so I'd rather just be able to move the 4WD system, (front axle, transfer case, driveshafts etc), over to my '06.

Yes, I know it's be easier to sell mine and just buy a 4WD, but that's not an option. I'm a mechanical engineer with over 25 years of design and manufacturing experience so I know what I'm getting in to, I just don't know the details as to what will fit from year to year.

Any knowledge from you all will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome. It's not so much what will fit that will be the main problem it is how to make it run/play. Basically all of the electronics between 2002 and 2006 have changed significantly. There are several very knowledgeable members on the forum (much more than me) they will be able to describe in detail what will be needed if it is at all possible.

Stick within the sub-generation, while within the umbrella that is "3rd gen", the 02-05 is quite different than the 06-08. There was a front end redesign in 2006, 02-05 4WD's use torsion bars up front, the 06-08's went with struts, not to mention the transition to CAN bus.
