So I have a Pioneer DMH-1500NEX headunit. Boss R1100 AMP and a single under the seat mount box with a 12 Pioneer A-Series sub. Im not getting the bump i thought I would. In my other car I had same amp with a RF Power DVC sub, and it hit so hard. Could it be that the speaker doesn't have enough air in the box? would I be better off going with a dual 10" box instead of the single 12"? Or can someone help with the setting for the amp/radio to get the best bump. Thanks in advance.

Can you tell us, what fuses and how many are on the amp. Sadly, I've heard alot of Boss amps are way overrated on power.

But yes, enclosure does also play a huge role. What are the specs of the sub requirements, and what do you have?

PS welcome to the forum!

The amp is the only thing on the power wire, with a 40amp i think fuse. and it is the only thing on the ground wire.

this is the sub box
  • Dimensions Sub cut out: 11.125”, mounting depth:6”, height: 7.25”, width: 32.7”, depth: 13.25”
Speaker is
  • Model # TS-A30S4
  • 1,400 watts max
  • 400 watts nominal

Im thinking of returning the box, amp, speaker and just getting a dual 10" system. Think that would be best?

Just looked it up, looks like it has a single 30amp fuse and claims it is rated 825rms @ 2ohms. Found some dyno runs showing 110-150 watts certified run to clipping.

I would swap amps to something better to start.

TS-A30S4

Is this the correct model sub you are running? Single voice coil 4ohm?

I am a big Kicker fan so I would go with a CXA series at a minimum. But even their CXA800.1 only is rated to 300 watts at 4ohms.

Edit: Found the specs for the boss listed at 550RMS at 4ohms.

skip to 11:40 for the testing

Is your budget for amp, sub, box $150 total?

Im going to have to let someone with a bit more knowledge jump in on a decent amp for that price and speaker. There are some pretty sweet deals going on right now for extended cyber Monday deals.

There are tons of speakers listed with 11in cutouts and under 6in mounting depth so that part will be easy if you want to switch speakers too.

That Boss amp isn't very good, most of them aren't, but another thing that gives crappy bass response is simply the acoustics of the vehicle. Some vehicles just sound better than others. I have a 12" JL Audio PowerWedge+ enclosed powered sub rated at 400 watts. You'd think it'd slam in a single cab truck, but honestly, it sounded like an 8" in a really small box.

I measured the response inside the truck with a microphone, and the bass response was horrendous. Huge dips and peaks all over between 20-100hz. I couldn't believe it measured so bad. With DSP and a good tune, it sounds awesome now.

So I changed some things and have some question on how to wire the sub to the amp.
The amp I’m using Pioneer GM-A5702
Subwoofer DS18 GENX124D

So with it being a DVC I have positive to negative on both voice-coils. Then the speaker bridged to the amp.

Is that the correct way to set it up? Reason I’m asking is cause some times I’m getting the amp speaker/amp cutting off to a second. Then I turn down the volume and it comes back on. So just wanna make sure I have it wired up correct before swapping out my RCA wires.

Check lowest impedance the amp will run at, then check Crutchfield for DVC wiring diagrams to match amps max power impedance.
So if you have two DVC 4s, you can wire to 1 or 4 ohm.

For a single speaker with dual 4ohm coils you want to run positive to positive then to amp and negative to negative then to amp. This will give you a bridged load of 2 ohms (make sure your amp is 2ohm stable). Check out this site, I remember using this when I was a teenager playing with boxes and subs.

Sub ohm calculator

If your amp is cutting off then coming back when you lower the volume, you might have a voltage issue. What gauge wiring are you running, where are you pulling power from and where is your ground running to? Can you post some more pictures?

That is how I have it wired up. I’m running 8 gauge wire direct to the battery. And grounded at the mounting bolt for the rear seat. Again with 8 gauge wire.

Crank system up, meanwhile check voltage AT the amp....see how low it drops.

So I haven't been able to get my voltmeter out yet of my storage area. but i did notice that when the volume is up the dash lights flicker and so do my led headlights. So I'm sure it is a voltage issue. Should I capacitor cap help? and what size should I get.
