For the same reason they still put chrome and cloth seats on trucks. Sorry Rusty, I couldn't resist. ;-)
If that's his real name. Lol

I live in SE Wisconsin. Winters are hard on carpeting around these parts. Because of that, every vehicle I own gets Weathertechs or, in the case of my current truck, OEM all weather floor mats. Much like the OP, the carpet mats end up in the garage until I trade the vehicle in.

No carpet in a truck, it's not a Cadillac! :D
My ex fleet truck had carpet added as an option, wtf!
Weathertech liner first thing I bought for her!

My $75,000 Larame Longhorn is better than a Cadillac, and yes I have carpet in it for a good reason.

Carpet mats are much nicer looking. I bought nice rubber Matt’s too and just switch them out as soon as it gets ugly here in Minnesotans. As of now 12/17/2020 we have no snow and clean roads. Therefore, I keep my carpet rugs in for a fancier, higher class look.

I do weathertech in the winter months and the carpet ones in the summer. I tend to take my shoes off on longer drives and the carpet mats

Curious as to what most prefer. I buy rubber slush mats and the carpeted just end up stored somewhere with every new truck I buy. Seems to me the slush mats should be standard and the carpeted optional.
I guess since no one likes carpet I guess we only need one exterior color and one interior color, same engine ,etc. It's all a preference, I believe that there are options when ordering, each vehicle is personalized.

I prefer carpet floor mats, just not for my feet though, I always put a rubber mat on top to protect the carpeted mats, it’s something about every time I vacuum my interior my carpet looks almost new that floats my boat, just me I guess?

ya gotta remember, 95% of SUVs and 90% of trucks never leave pavement. So sad.

Hate to break it to you, but 1500's are glorified SUV's with a bed. They primarily haul family, do home depot runs, and pull rv's or utility trailers.

If that saddens you, you might want to swap out to a 2500 which is a "real truck", that ought to restore your man card and brighten your day!

You forgot the fact that 1500 Crews are awesome for haulin 4 dudes, 4 sets of clubs, and a big f#ckin cooler of beer on a golf trip .... The idea that a truck has to be used on a farm, or taken offroad is just ridiculous .... My buddy’s 1500 with the Ramboxes loaded full of beverages was the **** for bonfire fireworks night over the summer

Some of us live in cities where there is no reason to leave the pavement. Not sure what is sad about it, but to each his own I reckon. I bought my truck because it is comfortable, we flood a lot so the height vs a car is important, and I need the bed. I live in Houston, so no real reason to be offroad. It's been on the beach once, and in a few campgrounds, but that's it in the 3.5 years I've owned it.

I’ve had the same two front carpeted floor mats for almost 12 years, looks practically new too, but I’ve have some rubber floor mats I put on top of them since I bought my Ram. Been thinking of getting the weatherTechs or the Husky’s recently, take the carpeted mats out, hmmm?
Husky for me !

I will not go Weather Tech because at the car auction's I have seen many with curled edges !
Husky seem to have good reviews,
I picked up the OEM Slush Mats years ago, Very heavy rubber ! But no side coverage like their new style Mats.
I have the OEDRO from Weather Mats for 2 years now, so far so good ! When they crap out I will go to the Mopar full coverage Weather Mats

It looks like if the trucks came with rubber mats less people would swap them out so far. I know very few people that actually keep the carpeted ones in the truck. I have the mopar full coverage mats much like the husky and weathertech. The mopar mats do look good as new every time I wash them so far. I'm seeing people in warmer climates preferring carpet in the summer, which I understand for barefoot driving.
