So I tried activating the lockers Sunday. After about 3 minutes, the lights hadn't stopped blinking. So a trip to the dealer is in order. If I buy the bypass kit or cut the wires and hot wiring the lockers, how would I know they're locked? How does the truck know that the lockers actually locked?

I bought it used, and don't know that they ever worked, and I don't have the facilities to drain, adjust and refill the diffs. The swaybar disco light does stop blinking after 45 seconds or so.

Were you moving while trying to activate the lockers?

I don't know much about the bypass but have seen some good reviews here.

Yea, if the lockers do indeed work then the bypass kit will have them locking instantly. They can be a ***** otherwise. Its just the nature of the system.

As far knowing if they are locked, well you will just know. Its obvious. Not positive, but I think if you go with the bypass kit the lights will still illuminate for you.

Were you on pavement when you tried to engage them?

before I did my locker bypass I usually had to drive slow "S" turns to get my lockers to engage. Even after I cleaned the locker magnets inside my diff I still had a bit of difficulty getting them locked. You can usually tell when they're locked up the truck gets a totally different feel and steering is definitely more difficult. I highly recommend The Able bypass! Super easy install, all plug and play no need to cut anything. You could quickly take it all out and put it back to stock configuration The longest part of the install is running the rear locker plug in and wire tying it up as you get to the back locker.

but here is a surefire way to know youre locked

There is a position sensor inside the diff giving feedback to the indicator lights.

Often to lock you need both movement and some difference in wheel speed. Turning the steering to one side and driving a few feet will get it done ordinarily.

If the locking pawls aren’t correctly aligned you can sit motionless all day or drive straight and it won’t change a thing. Turning the wheels at different speeds allows the locking components to come into alignment.

How many miles on the truck? Mine did the same thing... until I changed the diff fluid, and cleaned the locker magnets.

Now that sum ***** take 2 seconds to lock up, both front and rear.

Thanks all, yes, I was in 4 low, driving less than 10 mph, on a sandy, gravel road. I was steering side to side, a very loose S motion. There's about 18,000 miles on it.

Whats crazy though, is none of that **** really matters. Put a bypass kit in and its instant...regardless if anything is aligned.

The stock system is just garbage, thats all. Theres too damn many variables for the computer to finally say “ok, lockers, you can engage now”. DUMB.

Ive turned back and forth for minutes without the lockers locking. Ive also twisted the knob and within seconds they are locked. No rhyme or reason.

Change the fluid and clean those magnet and I guarantee they will lock up faster. I can sit at a standstill and mine will engage within 2 seconds

Apparently Google search is a wonderful thing. I found info on the 5th gen from Abel himself saying 5th gen (19+) don’t need the bypass? Anyone, anyone?

Yes, I share your pain. I had my 2020 PW in the woods at 150 miles to try out all of the functions to ensure working order. Same issue with locking. Eventually the axles would lock with the slow speed and "S" turns to allow the different left and right wheel rotation rates.
After a couple hundred miles of regular road driving, another woods trip and nearly instant lockup.
Just keep at it and the workings will eventually net satisfactory results.

This was Davids last post about the 19/20 Models on the bypass thread over on the power wagon registry . it looks like he doesn't have any intention of making one for the 19/20.

Seem from his post Maybe if there is enough interest due to slow locking issues he may work on one.

Definitely awesome for the 5th gen guys Us 4th gen guys got the short end of the stick. That's what's nice about the able bypass is now I can do all that in my 4th gen and everything is instant. I was a little hesitant to get it because of the price tag but but after being out on the trail with some friends I was the guy I kept having to do the locker dance and holding everybody up so I decided to get it and it's been worth every penny

I have the locker bypass and sway bar bypass sitting in a box since April. And I just got and airlift system. I think I’m going to have an install party and get the truck really set up.

While i agree 100% with your post. This didnt fully fix mine. I still was quite often than not doing the locker dance. Nonetheless cleaning those magnets will be beneficial to the operation.
