Hi, all.

I was changing the transmission oil in my truck, and this part fell out. The truck has a G56 six speed manual transmission and a new transfer case (installed before I got the truck). Anybody know what this tidbit is?

At the time that it fell, did it look exactly like it looks in the pictures? No oil/dirt or anything else on it - clean like in the pics?

No. It came out magnetically attached to the drain plug covered in oil and accompanied by a bunch of other metal shavings

I haven't had a G56 apart, but my first thought is the pin/shift arm at the bottom of the shift assembly. Maybe somebody has been in there?

You might contact Lazar Smith, in TX. He was the G56 guru.

So...it turns out it’s a synchronizer key, which explains the bits of spring that came out with it. I’m guessing it’s for second gear, since that one is always harder to shift into. So, the next question, of course, is just how imperative the darn piece is. A transmission rebuild is NOT something I’m interested in doing this year, since I’m still traumatized by the two engine swaps I did in the last two years on other vehicles. Sheesh
