I was going to get the kit and put it in, but then realized it is the perfect spot to put a couple of baseball type hats it. I used to keep one on my dash in past pickups, but the sun would fade them all to hell. Never know when you are going to need a cap. Plus gives the wife a spot to keep her phone on road trips

I come down on the "keep the cubby" side of the discussion. I keep a box of business cards there since I always seemed to be on a job site and forgot to bring any. Also, as mentioned above, it is a great place for the passenger to put stuff. My wife keeps her cell phone there along with a pair of sunglasses so she doesn't have to remember to get a pair out of her car. Also, never had any issues with things sliding around but I like the idea of something like a toolbox liner for the shelf. I'll have to try that.

Me thinks my '20 Laramie (I know, I know, I haven't updated my profile from my 05 SLT) has that hole already covered. Not sure, but I never noticed it, so it must be covered.

Well, I have the kit in my 2017 SLT, and added the light. I am very pleased on how it turned out.

The Dodge dealership has Dash Covers in their catalog
It covers the hole dashboard.
They don't keep them in stock because of the different shapes & colors

I had one for 2009 Dodge Ram with the Alpine center speaker, it had all the cutouts for venting, etc.
It also had a flap that hung down & covered the area where the glove box cubbies would have been, my truck had the glove box covers, so i cut the flap off. It looks like hell because of my lousy cutting job, but i'm too cheap to buy the correct dash cover.
By the way, that same cover fits on my current 2016 Ram, where it now sits.

I personally prefer the hole. Its too far away from the driver to be useful but is perfect for passengers to store stuff outside of the drivers reach. I don't remember the last time I ever had a passenger put something in a glove box...

That's a good point. If I was getting in someone's car I don't think I would ever even think of opening the glove box. Who knows what's in there

However if I got in and a nice empty cubby hole was there, I'd feel comfortable throwing my cell phone or anything else in there.

Another thread on this had someone point out that the Dominoes chicken nuggets box fits in there perfectly! Wish I had seen that before I filled mine. :33:

Who has installed a Glove box light in the lower box? Is there a right spot to install it ? Thanks

I installed that light and it was a Royal PITA! If I had the hands of a six year old it would have been a 5 minute job. The socket and pigtail come with directions on the mounting location.

I am fortunate, mine came with a door. If it didn't I would have installed a used one. I think that it is way over priced. I don't like clutter or anything visible inside my vehicles, someone on the other side of the glass may want it and break in & that would irritate me. Bad thing about it is as I get older, I forget where I put things and always have to look in there. Nick

Thanks for the reply ! I installed the Glove Box light in my 2015 RAM upper box a year or so ago. A pain getting the blank plug out lol and the harness. But see no knock out for the lower box, Did you use a dremel tool to make the cut out ? Wish it was set up like the upper glove box lol
Also stop into the Senior Citizen club thread , Just a group of us over 50 ,a lot of Bsing and anything RAM

Honestly, my family and I prefer the opening in the Tradesman -- even though it my look a little cheap. It's handy if you always have passengers. Books, purses, travel pillows, etc all fit nicely in there.
