Ok, so the digitizer on my 8.4 has finally gone crazy. Selecting all kinds of random buttons. Anyway, I just ordered the 1037S and full install parts from Crutchfield. I also have 3 kids that would probably not mind being able to watch a movie while we drive somewhere. That being said, is there any way to rewire the park brake wire? Back in the day, I could just ground the wire and done.

You can still ground the wire on Kenwood or JVC. I grounded to the chasis. You can also buy 3 wire grounding kits on amazon but no point really on Kenwood or JVC.

Not the best pic, was taken in the dark so it looks blurry but its in HD. Youtube video. I've also used HULU and cant watch live tv. Note Apple requires wire for screen mirror. Android can do it wireless or wired. I ended up running HDMI and the USB cable out of the small storage slot on my dash. Never use the HDMI but figured I'd rather have it than not if I do want it someday to stream from a tablet with the kid.

I'll buy your broken 8.4 for spare parts if you still have it? I break things often...

I was reading over the instructions and it shows hooking up the green park wire to the iDatalink green wire. Going straight to ground from the radio and not to the maestro won't goof anything up?

No I originally had the green parking wire to the idatalink green wire. When I tried to drive with video it would kill the video. I wasn't smart enough to research prior to installing. So I pulled deck back apart and cut the green wire crimp. I taped off the Idatalink wire with electrical tape and then put a round crimp on the green deck parking wire and ran it direct to a chassis screw hole. Worked great.

I was worried about that as well when I took it apart. But have yet to run into any issues.

If you were worried you could buy the bypass adapter for like 12 bucks or whatever and hook it up all up.

Side note what is the difference between the 1037 you got and the 1057 I got? I was confused as to which one I had because every time I'd google it half the time I'd come up with the 1037 and half the time the 1057. They are same price and look the same. So when I flashed my idatalink to match my deck I had to go grab the box to remember my model.

Just did a side by side comparison on Crutchfield. Preamp output is 1 volt more, 1 year longer warranty. And the 1057xr isnt in stock

Interesting seems odd to have two models so similar and priced the same. I bought mine at a local stereo shop so they only had the 1057xr option.

For you who have already done the leg work: I’m contemplating the 10.1” Kenwood and Idatalink Maestro for my 2014 2500 Laramie with heated/cooled seats, heated wheel, backup camera, and lots of vehicle features/options that can only be selected using my 8.4” screen.

Will I still have access to ALL of these on-screen features/options with this setup?

Yes. All features remain. Depending on the radio you'll be able to access gauges also

Yeah. On mine they are all greyed out because I didn't have those features. It does show climate and if I raise the temp or speed it will show what I did, but since I have the old school dials the Head unit climate is just for show. But with a Laramie you can do a lot more.

When you get the idatalink you or if you are having it installed the shop will download the truck specifics. So you basically go into idatalink site, pick your truck, pick your trucks features, and flash the module so that it has all your trucks features available.

I've played with the iDataLink Maestro before when I swapped stereos in my Jeep Wrangler. I was really expecting more out of it, but basically everything was grayed out and it was no more than a steering wheel control interface for me. BUT... My Wrangler had a pretty basic stock stereo. In my feeble mind I expected features that were never there in the first place. I'm happy to hear that I'll at least not lose anything.

BUT NOW THOUGH... As I've been reading more, I see that there is a PAC RPK-4 interface which adds a touch screen below the 8.4 opening. It replaces the factory lower radio controls and moves control of the factory options to that touch screen instead of having them accessed on the new head unit. Anyone out there have experience with this system? It LOOKS to do nothing more than what the Maestro does, but just adds an additional screen for HVAC, option controls, gauges, etc.

Yes pac unit does exactly that. Go on youtube, look up 5star car audio. They have hundreds of vids. They have done an indepth unboxing, explanation and demo of that pac kit. They also have an install video of that being installed in a customers car. Also lots of vids of the maestro installed in rams

So everything will be here tomorrow. Anything special to pay attention to when installing the unit? Any cutting?

You have to cut the metal frame once you get the factory HU out. Took about 10 seconds with a sawzall, two quick cuts. Other than that like I said get the specific idatalink instructions for your truck. It's lots of wires and lots of crap to jam back in.

The first time I did it probably took me like 6 hours mostly reading instructions over and over. I had to take it back apart to do the parking ground wire and took me like 10 minutes to take it apart, ground it and re install. Its easy once you understand everything you are doing.

What dash kit did you use? I got the Scosche "basic" kit that I reuse the factory knobs. Anything to note there?

Also, the chime for the park sensors, do they still play through the factory speakers?

My truck isn't fancy enough for park sensors so not sure there. I used the Pac kit. No issues was easy. Basically only use the sides of it.

did you hook up the canbus wires for the maestro? It says they go to the green block but doesn’t really specify which one to unplug. If it matters
