I just gambled on a 4c from a wrecked 2018 Chrysler 200. These seem to be a little cheaper because of the non-interchangeable aluminum bezel and car they come from. After cutting off all of the tabs and hitting it with a flap-disk to smooth out the edges, I was able to fit my existing bezel from my 2013 Laramie around it. I DID have to make my bezel a two piece design (lol) but it seems to be in there nice and snug. I'm totally happy with it.

Radio is P# 68332807A for those that would like to give it a shot. Confirmed working as of today.

I just have a few questions:

1. I was shocked when Android Auto and Music could be played thru my stock center console media hub.. From all of the reading, I was under the assumption that the existing USB would need to be upgraded to a 2018 model in order for it to work.. Why does mine work?

2. I paid eBay $9 with my 4C serial# only (no vin) and was given the unlock code within 24hrs. I love it but is there a free, even faster solution out there yet (other that trying to convince a dealer)?

3. My truck has all of the factory auto ac options but it still skips when trying to adjust from cold to hot. I only get one extreme to the other. Is there something I can do myself to avoid a $100+ wiring loom? I'm perfectly comfortable hacking my harness up and making it work thru patches.

4. Like many, I've lost my steering wheel heater and also the seat heaters/AC. Again, seems like an expensive harness that I can just re-wire myself. Although, I came across this pic of a box UCT4.0?? harness.png

5. Android Auto is a dream come true for me. However, my A-Auto Icon disappears when it's not connected via USB. I really like the idea of wireless Android Auto as I have an S20+ on 5G. I'm wondering if anybody has gotten this feature to work yet? Tried to do it thru the VR button on my steering wheel but she just says it's unavailable at this time. Can AlphaOBD help here?

For those still on the fence with this, it's an incredible upgrade that will pay for itself after you sell your old unit on eBay. DO IT and DO IT NOW! The level of difference is incredible.

Thanks a lot for all of the info guys! I'm gonna be getting a DSP to sort the sound problems with my amps and 6x9's next. I'll share my progress soon.

My understanding is that Android Auto works fine but Apple Car Play won't without the new hub.

AFAIK there are no true wireless Android Auto/CarPlay solutions that come stock in our trucks. Not even the 12" screen in the 5th gens do true wireless AA/CarPlay.

And that is the main reason Im sticking with my RA4. If I have to plug in to use AA, there is no reason for me to upgrade to a "better" stock unit.

If I have to plug in to USB, I might as well just use bluetooth for Waze to talk directions to me.

Not sure where you're at but in TN (and I'd assume other states), can't have devices in hand (https://handsfreetn.com/) to enter addresses etc. while driving. Also, making reports in Waze can be done on the 8.4 screen instead of on the phone.

Yeah, the non-UAx units you can voice control to add addresses to navigate to, etc. So its a fully hands free setup.

I dont mind the idea of the UAx units, I just dont see a huge advantage over the non-Android Auto units if I actually have to plug my phone in every time. Currently my phone and keyfob just stay inside my jacket (protected from our crappy winter weather) and the truck and head unit work wirelessly.

I'm with you. To deal with all the things that don't work properly with worse sound quality plus the known screen delamination issues as well as heat issues just to have Android Auto or Apple Car Play wasn't worth it for me either. The Panasonic radios are no where near the same quality as the 13 to 17 Harmon radios in my opinion. I pulled my UAQ out in a week or two and put my RA4 back in and never looked back. I also lost my SD card feature with the UAQ which was something I used all the time. Last but not least since I have an Android phone I can voice text with the RA4 Without being connected via USB to my radio and it works perfectly. I keep my maps updated plus my Travelink subscription and my factory Nav works well for me. If I'm ever in a situation that I may need Waze I can just use my phone. I know I'm in the minority but I'm just not a fan.

That's a surprising perspective. With me the newer units are night and day as far as quality goes. They look so much nicer and the colors are way sharper. It really makes me feel like I'm in an 18 Ram now, crazy. However, I did immediately throw a screen protector on just in case. SD cards are a dying tech, all of it really is unless youre in a dead zone (and even then you can still use your phone for music file storage) Troubleshooting everything else is just fun for me, so no problems there either. I cannot live without Android Auto, its a true game changer for me. No more pricey NAV units will ever be in my future because of it.

I guess I'm just weird lol! I don't like the new new screen themes as they are just 5 generic colors and the RA4 has 7 screen themes that are all unique to a Ram. The sound quality is known to be better with the RA4 and they don't have all the issues of the UAS/UAQ radios such as the screen delamination and software issues. I feel the RA3/RA4 Harmon radios are much better quality that the Panasonic UAS/UAQ radios which may be why FCA went back to Harmon. I love the voice texting with the RA4. It works perfectly and I don't need to be connected to the radio or deal with Android Auto to use it. Since I upgraded to the RA4 my voice texting works with no subscription so that's also a plus. I understand that the Android Auto and Apple Car Play are non negotiable for some people but it just doesn't impress me. The AA was constantly freezing on me and the voice texting would only work half the time unless I completely turned the App off and re booted it. As far as the SD card goes I understand it's old technology now so they've removed it from the newer radios but I like using it. If I had an I phone I would have probably kept the UAQ in my truck because the RA4 radios won't voice text with an I phone plus the Car Play seems to work much better than the Android Auto. To be honest the main thing that strayed me away was all the communication issues with the 13 to 15 trucks and not showing certain soft keys such as the mirror dimmer ect, XM channels not displaying correctly, Nav not displaying correctly even after installing the module that's supposed to correct all that. This cannot be corrected no matter how much you play with it and it's annoying. Had I had a 16 or newer so I didn't have so many issues I may have kept the UAQ in longer and given it more of a chance. It's just a matter of opinion and I know I'm definitely in the minority.

I was just reading thru your heated seat post in order to enable them on my 2013 with the UAS. Surprisingly, my mirror dimmer worked out of the box with this unit, along with XM, I haven't had a single hiccup with anything but the heated seat steering wheel not being enabled. Even my reverse cam went to a much higher resolution. Maybe the NAV unit that you had creates a little more complications then my non-NAV?? AA handles voice text and auto correction for me just fine with an "ok google, text Heidi and tell her to make me a sandwich" command. I too struggle sometimes with the constant changes in how we communicate but once I warm up to it, I simply cannot go back. Google sheets would be an example of a HUGE leap from using MS Office on my desktop. Sending links to client to these docs instead of large email attachments, etc... I can never use outlook or office stand alone again. As far as my 2013 goes, I ended up grabbing a 2018 seat module but according to your post, It looks as if I'll need to dig into grabbing the left under seat harness as well. I'm simply converting my Laramie that already had these options, just need to get the right harness in order for the radio to show them again. Other than that, I smile everytime I get in!

Yeah I know I'm in the minority about the UAS/UAQ radios. Mine definitely had issues in my 14 and I wasn't a fan of AA. My XM stations showed incorrectly in my EVIC, I lost my mirror dim soft key plus a few other things I can't remember off hand. The turn by turn in cluster didn't read correctly half the time plus the radio didn't sound as good as my RA4. I'm also not a fan of the 18 Panasonic radios because they have so many issues with the screens delaminating and getting wear marks plus overheating and other glitches. All that being said, to each his own and I know a lot of guys love them. I kept my UAQ just in case I ever change my mind but I'll most likely stick with the RA4.
