I tow a good deal & my front brakes are getting close to needing replaced. Are the Power Stop Z36 a good brake? Should I just replace with Mopar? Or is there another brand out there I should look at? I do not want some crazy expensive brakes as I will probably trade it in a year or two, but as I said I do tow a 13k trailer about a dozen times a year & haul a few thousand in my utility trailer on occasion. The Z36 is about $300 for the front pads & rotors.

I have had good experiences working with Nick at Got Exhaust with the R1 Concepts rotors and Posi Quiet pads. I put slotted rotors and Posi Quiet pads on front and rear and I feel the truck stops stronger and smoother than stock. He also set me up with steel braided lines for the front and I think they made the pedal firmer. My last set of pads and rotors were EBC and I think these are better.

Not truck related BUT, over the last few years, I have used 2-3 sets of Power Stop (rotors/pads/hardware) on the wife`s crossover suv with great success.

The oem brakes were way under-braked (car brakes on a crossover/suv) and also warped with wear/heat! The Power stop cured the oem shortcomings and haven`t had a lick of problems since upgrading to the Power Stop.

I put the z36 on mine roughly 15k ago. Just the pads though but it was still a great improvement with a brake flush over the ones the dealership put on before I bought the truck.

OEM on these HDs is hard to beat. I got 100K out of mine and was generally happy the whole way. I don't tow a ton but do have an 11K 5th wheel that I pull around from time to time and the brakes have worked great.

I used Performance Friction Carbon Metallic for 10 years on my ‘01.5 3500 (60K miles) and they were still in excellent condition when I sold it. When a rotor went bad on my ‘15, went with PFC again. I also found that the original pads were falling apart after 18K miles. They may have been fine for a while but squeaked constantly.

I switched to EBC rotors and pads (RK Series) at around 75K miles; the OEM pads had another 20K left on them but couldn’t stand the braking anymore. Made a world of difference over OEM. I oozed to a stop with the OEM set up; now I can stop on a dime. After reading Megaman’s post will try the R1 Concept setup next time.

I have the Z36 pad/rotors on my truck about a year now and they are great. They stop the truck way better than the oem brakes and don't dust much at all. Plus they're holding up really well to salt on the coast of New England. For the price you can't go wrong.

Just make sure to follow the break in procedure if you do go with them.

The Z36s are an excellent brake/rotor combination. While I'm sure there are other equally effective solutions, I only have experience with the Power Stops from putting them on my 2013 RAM 1500. When Power Stop released their four corner Z36s for the RAM HDs last year I put them on my RAM 3500. I've had a full season of towing and the difference between the Z36's and the factory brakes is night and day.

Awesome! I think that is what I am going to get. Every one but the front passenger is doing good. They probably have another 25k left on them. I have a caliper that drags on the front passenger & it is about wore out the pads. Some cracking on the rotor too. It doesn't hang up enough where the truck pulls to the right, but just enough that it hums some times. Obviously it's dragging enough to heat that rotor up too. So I will have to do the whole shabang! Pads, rotors, & calipers. Probably flush the brake fluid since I will have to bleed them anyway.

I had the identical situation happen to me. Front right was hanging. I ended up replacing everything. One good thing about this truck is the front calipers bleed super easy. Just crack the bleeder and let it sit for a few minutes and she'll fill up on her own. Pump and bleed once and I was done. 42cf294a3ea15549de54d25a20bb8b3c.jpg
