Hi all

Just got my bed step installed. imo, it's not cheap but it's worth it.
For anyone interested here are the install pictures
1. Remove 3 nuts and bolts (keep 2)
2. Remove 2 bolts (do not re-use)
3. Add 'Y' bracket hand tight, install 2 bolts with loctite
4. Ensure y bracket is in correct place and install 2 bolts with loctite and reinstall 2 bolts that was removed at step one.
5. Line up step and install 2 bolts.

That's it. Again very happy and easy to get into the bed now.

I have the same Mopar bed step I installed four years ago. Just remember to lube up the hinge joints at least every other month with a good penetrating lubricant.
Also you might want to silicon the end cap covers onto the step as they will get lose and possibly fall off. Also with it in the right area for tire spray from rain / snow / mud the powder coating will start to come off.
But it's still a good investment to have as getting up and down out of the bed is a lot easier with it

There is one thing that irritates me about the bed step, i have the actual Bed Step for Ecodiesels, it is still in the opened box.

The reason that it is still in the box, is because who ever designed the bedstep is trying to kill someone.

Why the hell does the Bedstep mount on the drivers side of the vehicle, you stand in traffic to lower & raise it, you slip or lose your balance when using the step & you get run over by some vehicle just casually driving down the road.
The bedstep should mount on the passenger side of the vehicle, where if anything happens, you would fall or stumble away from traffic

I ordered the bed package on my new 2021. I thought why the hell do I have to have the bed step included in this. Now that I have it I'm glad I do. I call it my old man step and use it every time I access the bed. Your concerns about its location are founded but is it anymore a hazard than opening your door when getting out?

I had the bed step in my 2015 Eco diesel and it was the first thing I installed on my 2019 when I got it this month.

Could you not install it on the passenger side as well?
If so maybe I'll have to get another one for that side just to make it look the same on both sides.

I love the bed steps for the 5th gen 2500s because of the way the step hides itself under the bumper. I've always hated the look of the step sort of sitting out there in the open, wish there were more options for hidden, pop out steps for 4th gens.

In my opinion I think you should install it.
I can't see you slipping. The step has a lot of textures on it to prevent slipping and you are holding onto the truck when getting down.
I would not be holding onto something in my hands while getting down using the step

To mount the bedstep on the passenger side, i would have to fabricate new brackets.
I talked to 4 Wheel Parts & they mentioned that they would make the new brackets for me.

I don't need the bedstep any more, since i now have the Bedslide

When you are up in age & your legs get weaker, your balance starts to become unsure.

Maybe you start to think twice about things like a step that puts your body out in traffic & your head looking away from said traffic.

I thought about getting one of those bolt on handles that fasten to the inside of the bed next to the tail light housing

It is not either of these or the one used on new fords

It is more like this one, but it is not the one either

_4o9mwuMkoF06K6Pb5fiAzI-pTmwjzBacp4IcPR4M&usqp=CAU.jpg

The one i saw, either online or in my dreams
Bolts to that housing that contains the left tail light
It is tucked in below the bed rails when it is stored
It swings out from under the bed rails & it can be locked in place
Then you simply pivot the upper part of the folding handle upwards & that part locks in place.
To lower it, you simply press a catch release to lower the upper part of the handle, then release another catch release to swing the whole thing back under the bed rails
