With the right OBD2 scan tool

You just turn the vehicle ignition to the On position & the scan tool has an Auto Bleed Function for the ABS

Bleeder Valves are always at the top
Air always rises, liquids settle downwards

Taught my two boys the old shade tree mechanic way.

Pump it up...
Hold it down...

LOL! Worked for many years. Now, we have fancy pants brake systems that are far superior than what those old cars had.
I did this with my son as well until he decided to be a smart ass and release the pedal early. Letting air into the system. I was like WTF is going on here, then I hear him laughing his ass off.

If the hose going into fluid from bleeder is in tact, and you don't let the master cylinder go dry, there wont be air in the system?

I almost died because I didn't have anti lock brakes, so I see the value in them. Dude crossed center divide headed right at me, I slapped brakes, no anti lock so I started skidding. Lucky for me he hit me early because my truck was skidding where if I had another 10 ft of skid he would have hit me on drivers door instead of front fender, by by Burla. I will never forget that skid, I was telling myself this is how I die. If I had anti lock the damage would have been in the center, as you can see it was dumb luck I didnt have more skid. Estimated 90mph impact, we were on freeway, between both trucks aprx 40ft of skid between the 2, he also had no antilock. If we both had antilock the collision would have been less. I will take this fancy braking system over non abs systems, just saying :)

That's a funny looking RAM! Too much trouble... besides you're bringing old fluid into the system. Get a second person to hold the pedal down & bleed 4 or 5 times each wheel until no more air comes out or old dirty fluid.

I finally bought a VACUUM PUMP . Your brake bleeding problems go away and you don't need a helper !

My favorite addition to my brake maintenance is the addition of Speed Bleeders. I have been using them since at least 2005 on my old 3500, and on every car or truck since. Going to add them to my Challenger so I can renew the 10 year old brake fluid. Makes for an easy and clean 1 person job.

Recently did my brakes as well and did the vac pump method. 2 hours into it i stopped and i got my 7 yr old to pump while i redid all the tires. I didnt feel good about the vac and it took forever.

Anyway, alphaobd has an ABS flush function

Abs> select procedure> abs flush

I was just wondering if alphaodb had that. I need that to get my brakes working again. Is it easy to find in the app? Any info you can add would be greatly appreciated.

I went camping this weekend. Yesterday, late afternoon, I ran down the hill to the rangers station to ask a question. As I approached the speed limit dropped to 25 mph. I hit the brakes and had none For the most part. I got to the parking lot and had slowed down quite a bit. I hit the brakes to get what little I had to bring me to a stop in a parking spot. I looked and my front drivers side caliper was hanging by the brake hose And all my brake fluid was flowing out onto the ground. I got some family to show up with a car trailer to haul me back home. The caliper had some damage and I lost one piston so I just replaced it with a rebuilt one. I got everything put back together with locktight on the bolts to avoid this from happening again. I ran 6 pints of new dot 3 brake fluid through it. I’ve now got all new fluid in my lines, but no brakes. Since I emptied most of my fluid ended up on the ground I’m sure I’ve got air in the abs. I didn’t know about the abs needing an extra procedure. I’ve got the alphaodb app and apparently it has flush function I need. So guess what I’ll be doing tomorrow night after work.

I'm not suggesting anyone do this, but if there was air in an owner's ABS block, air can be bled out w/o a scanner using a certain process. This assumes brake work was performed properly, air is trapped in the ABS module, and a technician can pump up and get decent brakes.

Find an unoccupied strip of road or parking lot. At speed, put 2 wheels on the gravel (side of the road) and stomp (and hold) on the brakes to activate the ABS pump. Then get the L side wheels on a gravel side and stomp (hard) and hold them until the ABS pumps activates (and let it activate). Might be necessary to repeat both steps a 2nd time. Bleeds out the ABS system. The pedal should get a lot firmer right away if there was air trapped in the ABS block.

Then go back and bleed the brakes out (again) as per normal (to get any air out of the lines downstream of the ABS block). Best to have a partner inside the vehicle to push the pedal down ....as that will result in greater fluid velocity than a vacuum system. It should kick any remaining air out of the system. Don't let the reservoir run dry.

Of course this is assuming all brake work was performed properly by a trained technician. This information is provided for illustration purposes only. Don't try at home.

That would be an interesting way of doing it if one could find a stretch of road close by that it was safe to do it on.

I circled the warning in the last pic because its easily missed if your just flying through it. When the procedure starts, its going to suck in your brake pedal and if your not ready for it you will probably **** your pants like i almost did. It was kinda violent

Also, when its done, it will tell you if any of your calipers need to be bled some more. When i did it, it said the front passenger side wasent up to *****, so i redid the bleed and ran it again and was good to go

Thank you. That is extremely helpful. Now to see if I can get my android tablet to boot up. I only use it for alphaodb. I haven’t used it in awhile and the battery lost its charge. I’m trying to charge it up so I can use it. If I killed the battery I’m going to have to buy a new one. Hopefully by the time I get home from work it will work.

I did The abs bleed brakes and I no longer have error messages on the dash, but the pedal still goes almost to the floor. The brakes work once it gets down there, but not good enough to drive on the streets. I ran out of daylight and brake fluid before I could get anything to work. If I pump the brake pedal I do get some pressure and it raises the pedal. Now I just need get them to work properly.
