Oh. And what is the color wire under the fuse box that can be grounded to avoid lighting codes? Thanks again

Hello guys. I hope everybody is good and healthy. Happy sunday...

I have a concern. I am making a harness adapter from 4th Leds taillights to a 5th Leds taillights. If I connect the faul sense lighting from the 4th gen to the 5th taillights I help the bcm to avoid some kind of fault ligting?

Thanks in advantage.
For the trucks that had LED lights connect it at the tail light connector. For the incandescent trucks, run it back to the BCM.

Hi Guys, I'm going to put these 19+ HD 2500 tail lights (no BSM's) into my 2015 with incandescent tails. Going thru all the posts trying to figure out what is needed, and I'm wondering if there is a summary anywhere for this situation. I had purchased some other LED tail lights and switch around the BCM settings to LED so I never needed any resistors in mine.
What I'd like to do is build the necessary harness without resistors, the ones I see for sale like RetroShop all have the resistors.
As I understand it I need the 12 pin connector/pins, and 2x 3 pin connectors and 2x 2 pin connectors and I should be able to just wire it up from that. It sounds like I if I want the amber turns that I need to run a couple wires up to the BCM. Is there a wiring diag for this, or just certain wires I need from page 10?
If there is a summary post out there on this, and someone can point me towards it, it'd be appreciated, or let me know if I am leading myself astray with what I've said above. I've done tons of wiring and BCM changes so all that is no big deal for me.

Thanks Guys.

You will need to run two wires from each tail light back to the BCM. Each tail light will need a fault sense wire and a turn signal wire. You may be able to get away with just setting the BCM settings to LED for the rear brake lights but you might still get hyper flash and bulb out warnings, in which case you would need to add a resistor across the brake LED.

I'd recommend running the fault sense and turn signal wires as that will prevent any bulb out issues.

I recently installed the 5th Gen HD tails with the Retroshop taillight harness. Simple plug and play. My truck came factory with led taillights if that matters. My only gripe is that I get a reverse light out message, but not every time when I go into reverse. Anybody else have this problem?

I've installed the same taillights using a harness from Retroshop. Not having any error messages. Which harness are you using Red turns or Amber. Im using the one for Amber turn signals

I believe it's the red option. It's the plug that goes from taillight to factory harness plug.

Try to get alfaobd and set all the lights to Leds.

I make the harness that make the taillights do turn signal in amber. It need Independent turn signal from the front of the truck. Could be the bcm or headlamps.

Did you let retro shop know about this ?
For 200 dollars if I’m not mistaken they should work etc ?
You could use Alpha obd possibly but kinda defeats the purpose of plug and play harness thats suppose to work etc .
Might need to add a resistor for more current draw .

Retroshop had the other harness that tied into your trailer light harness, but it was $200 hence I went for the cheaper option. I don't have the alfaobd. I'm going to contact them and see if they can do anything. Thanks

With the harness that I do you just need to take the turn signal from the bcm or headlamps. I always add resistors because no everybody has alfaobd. I can build you a harness without resistors.

I told them abut it and they said that other people have reported the same issue. The reverse light out message will flash, but it doesn't stay stored on my dash readout. I bought the $150 harness.

I hope they are working on a solution for it as seems to be more common of a issue by the sounds of things .
Maybe they need to add a anti flicker module to add a bit more load on that circuit
Keep us posted .

They told me it could be my led tailgate light bar, since it is a reverse light as well. I have it split off my trailer wiring. I'm going to unplug it tomorrow to see if it's the problem. If not, they told me to install some resistors on the taillights.

So they are saying you might have to put resistors on because there harness doesn’t work properly .
Sorry to hear that .
If you where near me I would help you out as I have a few resistors kicking around and alpha obd .
Let me know if you need any help with wiring etc .
Cheers

I actually already have the resistors from a past project and they told me to tap the white and black wires. Maybe it will work. Thanks for offering the help!

How do install your harness and how much?

Question on the IHS CAN wiring, is the 24awg twisted pair good enough to run all the way from the tail lights to the block? (2500 mega cab so a long run). May just run everything 20awg but thought I would ask out o curiosity. Not sure what happens on the CAN bus over long distances
