My 8.4” Unconnect radio was acting goofy. It was stuck on a location from several days ago. I went into the system settings and performed a factory reset. Afterwards the navigation says “Navigation System Calibration Required”.

I even disconnected the battery and nothing. How do I fix this?

Find a big empty parking lot and drive your truck in a counter clockwise direction under five miles per hour. I think five to eight rotations at least.

There is no "calibration" for GPS, it either see's the satellites or it doesn't. So if you are in a area with open skies it should be seeing satellites. If you are and it's still saying that it's usually it's a sign that your antenna or receiver is failing.

It’s been in this mode for at least 8 hrs. I drove on the freeway multiple times today and nothing. I will try the circles.

Something is failing or has failed. The only thing driving in circles is for is calibrating a compass and Nav uses GPS so it's not going to do anything but try if you like.

I found this….

“Called UConnect this morning after disconnecting the battery with no luck. He had me try a few things then drive to an open lot and drive counter-clockwise 5x then shut truck off, open drivers door about 30 seconds, close door, start truck back up then hold the VR button and the button next to it (can't remember what it was) for 30 seconds then try again. No luck. I asked if my software was up to date and he confirmed it was but told me how to check it.”

Actually it does in these vehicles somehow. It uses multiple sensors to make the NAV work (from what I've seen) GPS does position but it uses other means to determine heading.

I found this out with the Lockpick. It apparently gets video in motion by making the radio think the truck is in reverse. This results in a bug where your NAV drives backwards in a one step forward two steps back kinda motion. Very annoying...

Do you have alpha obd by Chance ?
If so if you Connect to the radio it might show antennas open circuit etc

They tell you to park in an open area, without tall buildings or mountain ranges, so that you have the best chance of having 3 satellites in position just for those satellites & your vehicle to triangulate
.............................................

When i still worked for the State of California

We were sent out in several teams to record every single Highway Storm Drain in our area.

We had a GPS locator mounted on the pickup truck that i was driving
Another person on the team had a GPS locator that he wore on his back
The 3rd Team member was an engineer, he marked everything down in Notes & on 2 laptops.

There was usually 3 & sometimes 4 satellites above us in San Diego
At other times there were only 2 satellites, we could still receive a signal, but it was not a verified signal, we needed 3 satellites to be verified.
When there was only a single satellite, we just located a tree or other place to stretch our legs, because that data feedback was worthless.

After a day or 2 of recording drains, we noticed that the satellites & the time of day corresponded, with a 4 or 5 minute time difference each day.
Like one day we would only have a single satellite at Noon to 12: 25
The next day we would only have the single satellite at 12:04 to 12:29

You mentioned they tell you to park in an open area. So don’t drive around and just park the car?

I bet those satellites where the ones that internet and cable companies use lol... here in Souther Cal we have 110, 119 and 129 satellites always in orbit which we were told are also used by navigation systems ....

Do you happen to have any LED bulbs on your truck that you added yourself ? LED bulbs can cause interference in the navigation system ....

The only one is my front light bar, but I don’t use it that much. I’ve had it for years and no issues before.

Disconnect it and see if fixes the issue ... even though the light bar might not be on it still connected to your battery and still has current moving .... doesn't hurt to try it ....

Does the map actually show you where your current location is etc ?

No. It shows S Flores St in San Antonio, Texas! I’m in Ohio.
