So I'm going to be trading my dually with a 68rfe and 4.10s to go back to a srw. I'm leaning towards a 2500 this time with the cummins, but have been thinking about getting an AISIN 3500 just for something different. I've never owned a high output cummins, always had a 68rfe. I've test driven a few AISINs over the years and they seemed like busier transmissions and more commercial feeling which isn't a bad thing.

I tow roughly 15-17 days per month and each of those days its about 60-75 miles/day. Its a 24' enclosed trailer, nose heavy so the tongue weight makes a standard 3500 squat 2" and its loaded typically 8000-12000 lbs.

Do you think the AISIN is worth it or stick with the 68rfe and save a few thousand bucks?

I've owned both. The only reason i went to an aisin was because we're going to be pulling heavy. Our 2500 with rfe we had was amazing on fuel and our current fiver was a joke to pull for that rfe and it weighed 13k. We full-time and traveled the u.s. with it. If I didn't need the aisin for pulling heavy I'd be going back to the rfe. Rfe was way way better on fuel economy. If I was you and never plan on towing over 17k, I'd stick with the rfe. Jmo

especially with 410. I'm only getting 13 empty and 9 or 10mpg with our 13k fiver. With the same fiver the 2500 with rfe got 22 mpg empty and 12 to 14 towing

Anyone know how the 2500 with coils squats? I had a 2014 a long time ago, but I cannot remember. I've heard the 3500 with leafs squats more. I know my 3500 SRW was 2" of squat with my trailer.

My 16 ram 2500 never squatted a bit with a 13k fiver. Now when I put a 17k fiver on her she would pucker up a bit

I have a 2021 2500 with the Cummins. I installed "Sumo Springs" and they prevent too much squat. They work great for pulling our 30ft TT that has about 1K lb tongue weight.
Perhaps you should consider them. They replace the bump stops and barely touch the axle until they are needed so unloaded the truck isn't really affected.

If you go diesel with the 2500, you will probably have more squat, not to mention the payload is so low with the 2500 and diesel. Good luck!

I love the coils on my 2500! With my 13k fiver with about 2,200lbs. of pin weight I squat about 2". Just enough to level it. I added air bags to help with the porpoising but didn't really need them for raising the rear of the truck.

I have the HO and Aisin and I get great fuel economy for a dually. 17 average, 19 on the highway and 12 towing. I have 3:73 gears, and a 25K plus towing capacity. Plus, my transmission shifts flawlessly and I don’t ever worry if I “Have Enough”. Put synthetic fluids in all orifices and plan to drive this rig forever

Must be the 410 in mine that makes for such a big fuel swing because the best I can do unloaded is around 12-13. Ahhh but that 43k gcwr is a must have for us so I guess we just have to eat the fuel bill

I always wanted the Aisin but bought used and of course ended up getting the 68RFE. I like reading the experiences since many of you have had both and know the difference. I just like the idea of overbuilt. My camper is only around 9k so I am sure I don't need more but never hurts to have it!
