Quick question for the group, I have a 2021 limited Ecodiesel. Love the truck but hate the tires it came with; they are better suited for a minivan. I am looking for good A/T tires to put on it before winter comes to Colorado but since it came with P285/45 r22, finding good A/T tires is proving to be challenging. The Falken wildpeaks seem the best option (out of very few options!) but I was not sure if others had other opinions.

I am putting some 18” wheels with dedicated General Grabber Artic Xl to replace mine for winter
275/65/18 gives you the exact same height apparently just more side wall and of course good snow tyres.

You could look at the Yokohaha Geolander A/T GO15, they have a severe snow service rating. General Grabber APT also has a sever snow service rating.Toyo Open Country A/T3, no severe snow service rating.

Toyo at3 has the 3 peak rating. I have had a set in 35’s.

Thank's for finding that. Interesting, on Tire Rack they don't call it out like on the other tires I found. Not the first time I've noticed that across a couple of the tire sites.

I know everyone has their on stories about tires whether they have had are good or bad. I was an engineer with Pirelli for almost 30 years and am now retired. I had the opportunity to see just about all the tire manufacturing plants around the world including competitors. I personally would never buy a tire that came from China, Korea or Taiwan. Tires made in the EU are good as well as those made in the US. I now buy American only. Cooper is an excellent tire and some from Goodyear are good. I hope this helps in your tire selection.

I agree. I prefer my tires to be made in USA or Japan altho I would pick USA any day. Most if not all of Toyo truck size tires are made in Georgia, for a while some were made in Japan but I do not believe they are anymore. Falen AT3w are made in the USA, China and Taiwan so you have to be careful and look to see where your particular ones are made. my buddy and I each had a set bought a month or so apart in the same size ie 255/80-17 mine were all made in Thailand and he had 3 made in the US and 2 china. I will say all were fine and appeared to wear and balance exactly the same.

I recently have had Toyo, BFG, Falken, Goodyear, yokohama and Coopers all made in the USA and one set of Falkens made in thailand.

No matter the tire you decide on, look seriously at dedicated rims as British Bulldog suggested, in either 18's or 20's. I have a set as designated rims and it is well worth it.

My soccer mom wife agrees on getting rid of OEM tires, she hated them, especially if it rained. She changed them 6 weeks after getting her truck from the dealer.
Venom Power Terrain Hunter is what she went after. Without changing wheels. Happy wife, happy life.

I got Goodyear Trailrunners. They look good, they sound good and they are rated well. They also have a 55000 mile warranty.

I chose the Cooper AT3. I would never have thought just changing the tires would've made such a big change in how my truck handled but boy was I wrong. Especially in wet weather. It literally was night and day.

+1 on the Venom Powers. Yes they are made in China as are many of the tires made by the big names. There are dozens of YouTube vids with testimonials from hard core off roaders who beat the snot out of these tires and they have held up to the punishment. They look great, have a 50k warranty and balanced easily without a lot of weights. I have the LT275/65R20 on my CC and they have been outstanding. While I’m not an off roader I do take my truck on logging, access, fire roads when hiking and these tires have never disappointed. They aren’t as quiet as a street tire but certainly not loud like most mud tires. They are also hundred less than the big names.

I am a fan of the Cooper ATW+4, but the last I looked it is only available in LT for our factory sizing and I want a P rate tire. Therefore to get the "full 4 season" capability of the Cooper ATW+4 I found only the G015 was a "full 4 season" tire that was P rated in our size.

Always thought that you use wide tires in soft sand

I don't have any soft sand where I live so I don't have direct experience with it. But it would certainly make sense to me that you'd want to keep the tire on top of the sand, so the wider the better.

You're definitely correct about using narrower tires for snow though. You want the tires to get down to the road surface to get as much traction as you can. I've used the OEM Falken Wildpeaks that come with the ORG and I'm sold on them for winter use. They also look pretty good.

For a striaght Ice and Snow winter tire that is still good in mud and on dry pavement, the Nokian Hakipilaten are excellent tires. I don't like changing my tires summer and winter so I run Goodyear Duratracs year round. They are sold by the millions to companies that spend a lot of time on gravel and mud roads, like oil service companies. They are a great all round tire, not the ultimate on ice, but very competent. They carry the snow symbol so are approved for use without chains in the Canadian Rockies during winter. If you look up their rating you will see they outsell every other similar tire ten to one.

For those of you that do serious mud, BFG Mud Terrains that have been heavily siped by a truck tire shop are also an excellent choice. Has to be done when the tires are brand new, once you have rocks in them or any use no shop will touch them for siping. Tremendous mud traction and great on ice and snow.
