I have been browsing the forum and have seen several issue that could be brought up as a class action for the 4th Gen Dodge Ram. I have never been the money chaser. However, for the amount of money invested in this truck I figured I would ask this group what your thoughts are on a couple of issues.

Of course the first being the engine knock. If we think this is something we need to pursue we would need the details of the truck and the amount it took to repair (or if you lost faith and sold/traded)

Another one I have seen and experienced is the ABS system failures. Same thing as above, if this has happened how much did you have to pay to fix.

Both of these could be argued from a safety and quality perspective. However, if there are not enough voices with actual hardship then there would be no reason in pursuing. Let me know your thoughts!

Thanks gents.

Pretty sure you could easily have a class action on hemi tick based on numbers, but I'm not sure what the remedy would be. 100's of guys here had hemi tick, maybe 10% have had a cam fail, the others either tick or get tick alleviated with a lubrication strategy. I'm not sure what rises to the level of class action, but surely it is a known issue.

If there were a class action for the Hemi tick and Chrysler lost every class action member would likely get a key chain or other trinket along with a letter saying to keep your windows rolled up or turn up your stereo and the lawyers would get a nice payment.

On my Hemi, Lubrication issues on Cylinder 8 lifter caused the bearing to cease up which then ground down the cam lobe eventually leading to misfires. Of course the dealer blamed a faulty heat treat on the cam, but it was obvious when I saw the lifter bearing ceased up and all ground down.
The other issue that is inevitable especially if your towing up large grades is the exhaust manifold bolts. I had mine replaced twice and just gave up when it happened again after two camping trips.

What I find interesting is why someone with repeat exhaust bolt failures doesn't pursue a different method of fastener retention/ durability. I repaired broken exhaust bolts on a Ram about 5 years ago. I purchased a set of case hardened high strength bolts and put them in.... customer hasn't had any further issues.

I am starting to see a lot of people with the service the electronic braking system message that is costing them $800.00 to $1000.00 to fix. Mine just came on/off/on/off/on/off half a dozen times last week, 2017 2500 with only 17,000 miles. At some point I would think they would see it as a failure on their design and not just normal wear.

IMHO a class action lawsuit is one usually promoted by lawyers for the benefit of lawyers, the victims usually get pennies.

Exactly - it's in lawyer's financial interests to draw out "discovery" hours as long as they can, and corporations are happy to oblige by hiding and shredding documents via "document destruction policies".

Ask me how I know.

All vehicles are depreciating liabilities.... NOT assets!
It's something I needed to remind the finance guy, or gal, at the dealership, when they were pushing gap insurance, warranties, protection plans, maintenance plans, and oil changes. My favorite is: "My trade-in is paid off, so I guess it's just cheaper to keep it, as there is only so much I can invest in the protection of a depreciating asset that sooner or later turns to dust."

I asked my mechanic about stronger hardened steel bolts and he said what he was putting in the strongest available. But I didn’t personally get the specific bolt information and research it. I since sold that truck and moved on to a Cummins.

5.3L Triton owners in the 2005 - 2008 got some re-imbursement for the spark plug fiasco if you had to pay for repairs.
