Got out onto the beach on Cape Cod last Friday. You need to buy a permit, and have some specific items with you - jack, flat board for support, compressor, tow strap. Need to drop tire pressure down under 20 before going out. There about 5 miles of beach you can drive on, park where you want. Cooked pancakes for breakfast, some steaks in the afternoon. Water was nice and clear, and warm enough. This beach is a bit rocky, need to have something on your feet, but we enjoyed the day. Truck drove through the sand no problem. Very nice spot. Neat to see such unoccupied beach. I presume you know never to drive your truck through ocean water. The speed with which it will rust out a vehicle, even after only a couple of ocean water baths is absolutely amazing.

Yup, its not a boat, not going in the water. Sand is much softer past the waterline, I could see sinking to the frame anyway.

I frequent the beaches on the upper Texas Gulf coast. The Bolivar peninsula, Surfside, and Galveston Island to be specific. Disclaimer: I don't use my 2019 RAM. Its too nice and I have a beat-to-death 2004 Chevy Avalanche on hand to get salty and dirty. I drive through the salt water and cut donuts, etc. I live just 15 miles from the gulf.

Last time I went to Crystal Beach in my truck, I buried it up to the axle about 25 feet off the pavement at the entrance (mine is a 2wd). Me and a few guys pushed it out while my wife smashed the gas. Once we got parked, over the next few hours I think 15 or so cars and trucks got stuck in the same spot. That was right after I bought it.

I definitely hit the 4WD Lock button as soon as I pulled off the pavement. I assume it helped, will never know for sure.

The entrance /exits are generally the worst. I guess the sand gets somewhat packed down along the beach, but gets churned up by traffic exiting and entering from different directions coming and going from the streets. My Avalanche is 2WD also, but I rarely get stuck. I always get a running start at the exits, and let momentum work for me. I do carry a nylon tow strap and shovel with me every time, I try to help folks out when they need it.

I did that in the outer banks last month. It was fun! I only got (sort of) stuck getting out of a parking spot. I just had to be taught to use low range! Got right out after that. And used it other times when it felt like I might be close to stuck. It is awesome going to beaches like that as its nowhere near as crowded as the beaches at resort towns!

If you are going to do a lot of beach running you would do well to air your tires down to 20 pounds. If you get stuck and haven't aired down already, do NOT spin the tires. Air them down on all four wheels and u will be amazed at how easily you can walk out. Same applies to 2 wheel drive vehicles. Make sure you have a 12 v compressor or hit a gas station to air back up before you get back on a high speed road.

...but it looks so 'cool' driving through the ocean on TV! ;)

I also visited Cape Cod (beaches) a few weeks ago ...just walked down. Really nice area. Thanks for sharing!!

They require you to air down at the entrance, have an area to pull off to do it.

If you folks enjoy driving on the beach, come check out the Washington coast. Most of the beaches on the south portion of the state's Pacific coast are drivable, and in fact are considered state roads. I love living where I do, the best table in town for a nice dinner is the cab of my truck. I whip up whatever I want to eat or grab take out and go enjoy the sunset, or watch the storms roll in (the latter very carefully from the side of the access road...those waves get freakin' huge). And definitely use 4WLo unless it has rained recently. The local towing companies make $80 a pop rescuing people who get stuck.

I engender when I got my 20 pw I took it to the beach and drove through the water. I do it everything I'm near a beach now. I cook me and my girlfriend dinner and just relax for a bit

You are right about that. I have blasted through more salt water than you can ever imagine, but I pressure wash the old Avalanche soon afterwards.

Very cool. The sand I was use to driving on (gulf coast) would stick a 4WD vehicle pretty easily much less a huge 2WD motor home. The sand there much have a very different composition.
