Battery impacts are nice, esp, for steel lug nuts. But this is what I use at home (on my truck). Doesn't screw up the lug nut 'caps' like an impact will. No batteries and I get a little needed exercise too.

But if you do use an impact, these are real nice (or final torque with a breaker bar/lug wrench):

So far, my factory Lugnuts are holding up just fine to my electric impact but then again, I only use the impact to take the nuts off because when I put the wheel back on, I’ll just barely hit the trigger to snug the nuts up and then I use my torque wrench to tighten the lugnuts down to the final torque.

Would after market wheels be the same ?
You know, I would reckon so because back when I was using 1.5” hub-centric Bora spacers on my hubs to bring the tires out a little from the wheel wells, the directions sad to torque the spacer lug nuts to your factory recommend wheel torque so, I dunno. Best thing you could do is get with the manufacturer of your wheels and ask what they say. They may be different.

Versatility, I would go with dewalt. Of course, that’s what I have most batteries for. Milwaukee kicks butt, but the dewalt is easier to get and everybody has the batteries.

Man i can't believe 5 months have gone by... crap i can't even believe we'll be saying goodbye to 2021 in a couple of days., damn.
In any case i remember all about this thread as i got a bunch of Amazon gift cards from the family and priced out the Milwake M18 with the battery and the charger for $399, and Dewalt XR with the battery and charger for $243. end up ordering the Dewalt DCFM899M1
I'm aware the Milwakee has more power, but i can borrow most tools from my brother in law as well if it was needed as he's got a bunch of things from Dewalt. The Dewalt XR has more power than any of the other impact wrenches i have combined :), which is a Kobalt 1/2" wired impact wrench and a old HF 1/2 cordless impact wrench that can't even remove lug nuts torqued at 100lbs.

DO not have an impact driver, so lug wrench and Torque wrench all the way. I carry a breaker bar and 22MM 6 Point Deep Well in truck and when travel throw in my torque wrench also.

I have a 60 gallon dewalt compressor and I am going with air tools as much as I can, but having a good 1/2" impact to have in the truck at all times should be something everyone has ... I might end up with a dewalt one since I have a couple of battery powered dewalt tools already ...

Dewalt came out with a new battery line, made a reg impact driver perform the same as makitas new 40v line. Sure hope others will follow this new battery tech.

Aight things have changed in a hurry :) I cancelled the order a few min ago as i just realized the kit i bought has a detent anvil instead of the hog/friction ring an also a 4.0 battery instead of 5.0 one. Still for $243 is a good deal but i don't want to deal with the detent anvil stuff.

I'm going to order the Milwaukee 2962-22 kit, mid torque with 2 5.0 batteries and charger for $358, still more torque combined than the stuff i have so far and super compact.

I picked up that same Milwaukee impact a little while ago and that thing is a beast!

I got this to just break lugs and what not. I'm a DIY guy not a mechanic in any sense of the world. But I didn't want to spend the extra money. This is a beast for where it came from. Alot of people say it is crap but they don't know how to turn the auto stop function off.

Got the goods just in time for the new year though i only picked one 5.0 battery instead of 2, but the rapid charger instead of the standard charger. I wanted to try the 5.0 battery first to see how long it last and wait for a good deal on the 6.0's. I read the 5.0's are kind of obsolete ? and that i should be getting the 6.0 HO in the Milwaukee line.

In any case here is the mid torque one 2962-20, rapid charger and 5.0 battery

Compared to my 5 yo HF one that hasn't failed me. it just don't have a lot of torque to remove anything past 100lbs.
According to HF web site, the specs are 450lbs busting torque, Bauer 1782C-B. yeah right.... that's why i bought the Kobalt below, rated at 350lbs but have removed hub nuts from my vehicles where as the $99 HF one can't even leaving the thing in there full on for 30-40sec :). I'm still keeping it cause its perfect for torquing things down without fear i'll bust a bolt/lugnut etc

And compared to my also 5 yo wired Kobalt, 350lbs busting/350 forward torque she has done the job well but it's heavy as heck :), this would go in my garage as backup of the backup. or maybe i'll sell it cheap in Craiglist. will see.
Compared to new addition 650lbs busting torque, 550 lbs forward.
