Hello, I am hoping a knowledgeable individual can help me fix this problem with my truck. I have a single owner (myself) 2014 Ram 1500 Laramie C/C 4x4 3.92 8-speed 5.7L. I have had zero issues this entire ownership, however, my truck recently completely shut off while I was idling in drive within a parking lot. I had only stopped for a few seconds while I passed food around to my kids. That's it. I had to have a tow truck haul my truck home and it has been in the driveway since. Has power in the dash display but wont start or crank. I looked under the hood and I don't see anything obvious. The fuses look good, wires look relatively clean and free of corrosion. Battery tests good too. My brother-in-law has one of those OBD code readers showing a "U0100" code:

Per Google, "The generic OBD trouble code U0100 is a serious situation where the signals between the electronic control module (ECM) or the powertrain control module (PCM) and a particular module have been lost. There could also be a problem with the CAN bus wiring disrupting communications."

Thanks. pic for attention :D

How old is the battery? A battery with a bad cell can cause a lot of electrical issues. Are your POSITIVE the battery is okay?

The battery is less than a year old. I used my volt meter and it looked good to me. But, you have a point. I am going to take it into autozone and see what they say when they hook it up to their computer thing. It is under warranty and I hope the problem is that easy. Wish me luck. I will let you know what they say.

Disconnect battery, check for lose PCM cables, if good, disconnect & clean with air & electrical cleaner.
If it still doesn't work more than likely have to replace PCM

I guess I dodged a bullet :D. It was a faulty electrical ground haha. That's it. Thanks for all the replies.

This is a good thread for other Ram owners, who might (probably will) run into a similar issue in the future: Truck won't run or start and a message that indicates a failed PCM (or something along those lines.

I had that happen to me too, the same message. The first thing ya think is, "OMG, this could be a $1,500 repair!). BUT ....it can be battery, cables, or poor ground connections. In my case the truck's battery had failed. However, the voltage reading tested fine with a simple volt meter. I wouldn't have caught it just by that reading alone. But with a battery load tester it tested dead flat. And as this post shows, bad grounds can do the same.

O/P, Glad you got yours fixed with minimal costs! :banana-mario:

Ground on the Battery or Body to frame?
It was a wire grounded to the side of the interior engine bay near the battery. Also, the battery needed to be replaced. aaaaaand, the battery was new. Probably 6-8 months old and one of those fancy Duralast Platinum AGM type. Odd for sure.

On a side note. I own a 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT :D. It is my family ride and damn functional if I might add. Well, As soon as I got my truck back from the dealer.....my Van developed its first issue since ownership. Crazy, it is like I cant catch a break right now hahaha. This one is relatively minor and I am hoping someone who is handy can help me out. I pressed the parking brake pedal down and heard a loud *SNAP!* Well, parking brake in engaged and the cable portion at the pedal snapped. All I want to do is manually disengage the parking brake so I can drive the van to the shop and have it fixed. I really don't want to deal with a tow truck if I could avoid. :) Thank you.

I attached a video of my van's parking brake assembly. It is the best angle I could get and hopefully it is adequate for your viewing. :)
