So my radio in my 2018 Ram Sport has been delaminated as they call it or had the bubble in the screen for quite some time. Didn't want to hassle with FCA over it and research had shown it was just the glue. So i watched quite a few you tube vids of people taking apart the radio and screens and with the last vids by "The Hands on Gang" i decided I could do it. I removed the radio disassembled it till i got to the screen. Put just the screen back in the closed truck on the dash in the sun for about 30 to 45 minutes then took it and set it in the front half of the radio that i had screwed down to a board. Then with fishing string sliced the screens in half separating them easily. Layed the touchscreen out on a flat surface and proceeded to clean the glue off. I used Skin So Soft bath oil and rubbing alcohol and plastic razor blade scraper and lots of paper towels to remove and clean the screens. Once clean i added 2 layers of 2mm cell phone screen tape ( from Amazon) to the plastic edge around the LCD screen to give a slight gap between the screens same as what the glue did. Set the touchscreen back on top then reassemble the whole radio. One note , when pulling apart the case try to keep pressure on the circuit board on the side opposite the screen because there are two circuit boards that are separated by 1inch aluminum spacers and without the screws ( you should leave them in thier holes when you seperate) they fall out then you have to put them back in place and tape the screws to the body till reassembly time to hold them in there spot. Other than that little hitch it went smoothly took about 2 to 3 hours to clean and reassemble and 15 minutes to reinstall in the truck. Works like new no ghost button pushing except if you push too hard on the screen then i see other buttons flash but usually not activated. Just have to have a lighter touch, the gap between the screens maybe is a hair too close i don't know but as long as it's not pushing buttons on its own I'm good with that.

You bet! Now I'm tackling the side mirror gear replacement. Bought a metal gear replacement with the shaft on Amazon, way cheaper than Gruven parts. Saving alot of cash doing the DIY!!

Question, did you have ghost touches before this fix and cured them in your fix actions?

Yes, if you see that last photo i uploaded you can see the screen delamination/leaking glue line and it was right across all my radio presets. You could only have one station set on all of them or else it would go crazy changing tunes. I left my screen on the radio because if you switched to the phone it might try dialing. It started out with the clock button constantly asking to update clock witch was a pain. I also added a extra hole in the a/c vents on the side to blow a little extra cool air in there with the radio. I saw a post were someone motioned doing that to help cool the radio and i figured it couldn't hurt since i had it apart anyway. I did see that there are some factory holes on each side but they are right up at the top behind the directional vents, I drilled mine further back by the close off flap.

Thanks for confirming that. It never occurred to me that the ghost touches could be caused by the digitizer being touched from behind by the screen once the LOCA leaked out enough.

I'm going to have to try adding the cell phone stuff you mentioned. Can you post a link to what you used?

Also, if you're interested in cooling the radio, here's a cheap mod...

I also added fans...

Here ya go this is the Amazon item i bought except i got 2mm wide tape. https://www.amazon.com/MMOBIEL-Acry...Tape-30m-Weatherproof-Removable/dp/B07W93YKNM 1mm or 3mm wide would work because i put it on the plastic frame around the LCD screen. i also put 2 layers, the tape is pretty thin but sticky once you press it down. Probably could have used 2 on the top but only used one because the tape was higher than the screen on that edge. I used a straight metal blade backside layed on the screen to check weather the tape was higher than the screen. I did stick the touchscreen down with one layer of tape but then took it off and redid it with the 2 layers because i thought i need more of that air gap between those screens. After install I did notice if i pushed the screen very hard like when your driving and bouncing around that sometimes you would see another button on the screen activate but most time the other screen didn't appear. Basically you need just a light touch and they all work fine. I didn't put any tape across the bottom because there is no frame there and it's kind of rounded where the flat cables go to the screen. Only thing which i didn't do was note the position of the Touchscreen on the LCD before you separate them, I eyeballed them when i stuck them back together. I also had the LCD screen setting in the front half of the radio were it mounts so i could see the edge that it can't pass because you have that black frame that goes over the screens and clips to the front half body to hold them in place and you don't want to bind the touchscreen in any way it's very thin.

@SitKeelBend Forgot to mention I like that idea of adding a fan or fans behind the radio. I got a few of those laying around might give that a try.

Thanks! I'm gonna see if I can cure an extra screen i have of ghost touches.

Dont know if this goes here, but here it is.
So my new to me (8000 to 9000 miles on it, dont rember exact mileage) 2018 8.4 radio did the delamination thing after I had it for less than a year (warranty doesn't cover your radio). I went a head an replaced it with an OEM radio...what a big mistake. Spent about $1250 (best price I could find at the time), replaced it myself (money saver there)! Had to get it flashed, that involves going to the dealership (where I live, that's a kick between the legs). I'm about $1500 in now and it worked good for about 3 years and now it's doing it again! I'm going with after market and with what I've picked, it's going to be about $1800 out the door. You would figure spending $41,000 (regular price $48,300) on a new/used RAM that the damn radio would last a lot longer than 3 years. I guess the heat in West Texas is just to much for a cheap ($1500) chines radio! Damn it RAM I want to love you, but you're making it hard on me..lol Better than the 2015 Chevy I bought new an had to lemon law to get rid of that junk!

I just bought an apple iPod for the wife. The Staples store guy put on a liquid screen protector that hardens in 30 minutes and then buffed it out. Wonder if you can remove the screen cover on your radio and replace with this film. Of course the radio still needs to be removed.

Radio is covered under warranty. Replacement radios also have a warranty if you purchased refurbished from the dealer. Maybe @RamCares can help you.

No, the delamination in question occurs between the LCD and digitizer. The protector you speak of goes between the digitizer and the users touch.

We took the digitizer apart and cleaned it. Now there is one part of the screen that doesn't respond to touch. New lcd? New glass? Better tape spacer?

You have my interest, lol. Did you leave the factory thermal pads in place and add the new pads to them,or in conjunction with the factory pads.On you're fan idea do you have a link to them.My wifes radio in her 19 Challenger works good when it's cold, but as soon as it warms up,it doesn't work quite as well. Could a person get away with a 50 X 50 sheet of the thermal pad material .

That is the same one I used but I had the 145 x 145 1.5 sheet. I had a lot leftover and I "think" you can get it done with the 50x50 sheet. You must remove the old thermal pads, too much thermal material can be worse than too little. I used the old pads to trace out the new pads. The fans used were Arctic F9 Silent Fans. You may be able to fit a larger size in but likely only one instead of two. The fans are blowing away from the radio (towards the engine bay). Eventually I'm going to add some insulation to the air ducts too. Here is the updated version of the fans I used...

EDIT: This is probably overkill but I also made a heat shield (made with fiberglass exhaust wrap and foil duct tape) for my version 1 screen to try and prevent delamination, so far so good...

Thank you .When it warms up,i'll have to jerk the radio out and see how much room there is behind it.I did have the radio out awhile ago to install the HP bypass cable, but didn't really pay much attention to how much room there was to add a set of fans behind it. I like your idea though, how silent are the fans, are they noticable if you're sitting with the truck in ACC and just the radio on? You been Macgivering, but i like it,lol. How did you mount the fans,it almost looks like they're hot glued into place.

I used zip ties for mounting. You can hear them in ACC if you are paying attention but they are barely noticeable. I have to turn the HVAC off (even on the lowest setting) to hear if they are running or not.

I'm apparently blind in 1 eye and can't see out the other, lol. The zip ties are noticable, but i missed them the first several times of looking, this getting old sucks, lol.
