Ordered the RECON OLED sequential taillights from AmericanTrucks.com on 6/7/2021 for $685.99. Received and installed about a week later.
9/22/2021 the left tail light started causing a hyperflash and left taillight out indicator. Contacted Recon support due to AmericanTrucks.com only having a 30 day return window. Clay (the customer service manager) at Recon was “kind” enough to offer me a new resistor for the low low price of 24.95 shipped and got ****** off and rude when I complained about them charging me for a repair part. Anyone want to buy some discounted Recon taillights and 3rd brake light? I’m replacing the tails with Morimoto and looking for a 3rd brake alternative. Never buying Recon again. (Edited due to AmericanTrucks offering a 100 dollar discount on next purchase, at least they are making an effort. Recon wants to make money off of fixing a manufacturer defect.)

According to Clay at Recon this is the first time a resistor on their taillights has ever crapped out. Suuuurrrre. Roger that.

Not according to recon. Only if I buy it from them direct I guess. AmericanTrucks ended up offering me 100 dollars off a different set of taillights. Considering getting the Morimoto’s from them with an extended warranty. Morimoto has a 5 year warranty on their tails but if you don’t buy direct you have to route it thru the vendor.

Next time. I used affirm to pay that’s why I went to AmericanTrucks. I’m tempted to buy the morimotos from them. They offered to give them to me for 415. They’re 618 direct from Morimoto. 515 full price right now on AmericanTrucks

So if you have trouble with the Morimotos, do you think American Trucks will give you better support? Or will you just be out another $415? Better off having American Trucks cut you a check for $200 and buy direct from Morimoto.

They won’t cut me a check, they just offered in store credit of 100 basically. I could buy the extended warranty from them or I could trust that morimoto/trs would send them a replacement pair if I can get AmericanTrucks to request warranty service. I asked them if they would handle a warranty request through Morimoto. Haven’t heard back yet. I got the Morimoto XB headlights from AT when I bought the headlights and they shipped directly from morimoto unlike the recon’s. Zero issues with them. I have the MM headlights, fogs, puddle, and license lights. All top notch construction and zero issues. I wanted the MM tails but they were out of stock at the time and I was being impatient to finish upgrading all the lights. My mistake. I did order the 25 dollar (rip off) resistor from Recon so I can fix them and try to sell for 50% off or something close. They work. The resistor is the only issue. It’s just the principle of the matter that Recon won’t stand behind their product and send a replacement resistor out of pocket. If had them for at least a year I would understand but 90 days (with receipts) is ridiculous.

Got the replacement resistor today (25.00 shipped, Clay said they are normally 50.00 so I should thank him… smfh) from recon. When I took the tails off, I noticed the resistors that are screwed into plastic bosses on the back of the taillights (bad design, I didn’t notice when I got them) had melted the top boss completely off on both sides and melted through the housings. Took them off. Replaced the bad one and screwed them to the metal body of the bed behind the tails. Used duct tape to seal the melt holes/melt damage. Still back and forth with AmericanTrucks on the discounted Morimoto’s The guy ive been talking to seems to have forgotten that he offered me 100 off the Morimoto’s. Just sent him the email proof. Waiting for a response. (Update: he remembers now. Told me to call and reference my support ticket when ordering for the discount and also said they would handle a warranty request through Morimoto if needed. 5 year warranty on the Ram tail lights stated on the Morimoto website). Moral of the story: Recon sucks big. AmericanTrucks.com is at least trying to compensate me a bit for the failure of the product they sold me.

These companies must realize forums like this exist for most makes of vehicles! Do they not CARE that they get lambasted on forum and social media?
I suppose in reality volume is all they care about. Sad. I see those lights are marked ‘made in Taiwan’ which I would have thought would be better than mainland China…..
Good luck! I follow advise on this site when I buy things now! I also like to put my reactions to companies I have dealt with down. Though to be honest I usually do the good ones,mainly because I come across so many crap ones, especially for customer service, that I am always pleasantly surprised…..

Well Clay at Recon surprised me today. I decided to send him the pictures of the melted housings and he offered to contact AmericanTrucks on my behalf then when they said they wouldn’t replace them he offered a replacement pair if I paid the shipping(27.99). Got an email notification that they are shipping a new set today. So I guess persistence pays off with them. Maybe he saw this thread. Idk.anyway they are making it right. I’ll make sure to relocate the resistors far away from the housings this time. I’ll let you guys know if they crap out again.
