Re: 2017 .. can I communicate with Unconnect from my phone or computer and tell my truck to do things like:
-Lock/unlock doors.
-Activate alarms if I see (through my dashcam) some lowlife messing with the truck.

The 3G phone service that the '13-'17 8.4 UConnect operate on is going away after the first of the year. There's a 4G dongle available but you might want to read up on it reliability. UConnect would remote start the vehicle, lock/unlock the doors, send maps to nav(if equipped), etc.. but it wasn't the greatest.
@Ramsoso for what you looking to do, look into an aftermarket alarm like what Viper offers, it's less expensive and probably a lot more reliable.

There's a Unconnect subscription ... I'll check it out and see what that comes with.
