Any thoughts on the Mobil 1 extended performance filter? I am using it and PUP changing at 5k.
After posting this, I watched some videos! Think I am going to get the Fram Ultra and try it.

Not sure what this guy's criteria is, but I can state that his "thoughts" about paper / cellulose are wrong. The inconsistent fiber size and distribution allows the largest particle size of all media. Generally, the largest hole size is app. 30 microns, which means that is the limiting particle size - not "8-10 microns".

This from years working with Fleetguard (stratapore) and Donaldson (blue canister) filtration for many industrial engines, principally Cummins engines.
Fleetguard LF16035 Stratapore Oil Filter is a better quality filter all around. I've cut a few filters open to see how well they did their job. Fram synthetic is pretty restrictive, and my experience was of it causing the bypass to open sending what ever is in the oil straight to bearings. I expect 1 million miles on my engines, anything less is a maintenance failure I use testing to know when to replace my oil. Oil capacity for my engines is 3 gallons. At most I change filters only. Never will use a fram after the failures I've seen.
And I use Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme Full Synthetic oil. Expensive but Cummins likes it, a lot of my friends use T6 synthetic. It would surprise folks that mopar uses fleetgaurd as well for an oil change for its diesel, and it has the mopar label. One must remember that mopar does not make the Cummins engine, and if mopar used a farmed out filter it would void the warranty on the Cummins engine that Cummins gives ram for using its engine in their vehicles. Fleetgaurd is owned by cummins.

Only issue i have had for filtering is the fuel system. Even tho ram does have a filter just before its new CP4, it does not have very good filtration. All of my vehicles except my one gasser now have a straight pick up in the tank and goes through dual filters where pump and filters are one unit on the rail of my trucks. All but one has an air dog system. My 12V has a fast system. Too many failures for tank pumps happen in rams. Even gassers have fuel pump issues.

Yep - well constructed media general is:
paper / cellulose 95% down to 30 microns
spun glass 99% down to 20 microns

Fram used to publish these numbers, now days, everyone is hiding everything. Fear of lawsuits and trying to market flak for mo' profit.

Yeah, Fleetguard & Donaldson don't offer synthetic oil filters for Hemi engines. Only contractor service engines.

Average beta rating based on ISO 4548-12 multi-pass test methods:

  • ß25 = 100 (at 25 or greater micron, media is 99% efficient.)
  • ß20 = 75 (at 20 or greater micron, media is 98.7% efficient. Also considered absolute rating.)
  • ß10 = 5 (at 10 micron or greater, media is 80% efficient.)

If y’all like the old Fram and the RP filters, look into the new Microguard Select from Oreillys. Having delved far enough into ISO testing and filter opening videos as well as opening a few myself, I stick to the MGS K&Ngold RP/Amsoil and FramUltra. At that level of product the only real world difference you’ll see is pricing and the MGS generally takes the cake on it.

Those that like Wix/Bosch might do a little research on them on BITOG. My opinion they’re fine for older engines that don’t run the same level of pressure modern engines do but I’ve seen far too many that when cut open reveal that the filter media has been torn and not only not filtering but introducing extra debris into the oil system. Motorcraft has had problems with this as well

Not all of the Fram Ultras have been changed to the new media. Take a pen light and shine it down the center tube and you can see the back side of the media through the holes. You can also see the metal screen if it is there. Even the filters in the new boxes that don’t say metal screen backing. Yes some have changed but not all of them. Every XG2 I have looked at still had metal screen backing and came home with me. I have several years worth.

I’ve cut open many oil and fuel filters. Believe me I know. As far as YouTube, yeah I believe anything posted on the internet has to be true.

Good post thanks, from day one I was concerned about the wix because it was tight thin media compared to thick loose media of RP/Amsoil ea. There was a lot of opinions on both sides, but personally I obviously preferred the loose thick media. Now, I feel like I have some vindication, so I appreciate the update.

I wanna poach this for oil filter thread as well.

Hi everyone, I am new here from Ontario,Ca,my Ram is 2019,5.7 hemi classic with 8 speed tranny, I am using shell rotella full synthetic oil 5w20 with fram ultra synthetic oil filter xg10060 the last 2times,first 10 kms was the original dealer oil&filter, now I am.just about to hit 30.000km and so far so good, truck is smooth, quiet, no problems at all, one store put the fram oil filters on sale,so I bought 6 of them, then I finde out about the new change,no more metal mesh on the back for support and no synthetic media, but the label say the same info ,20 microns, still good for 20 000 miles, but I am not a 100% sure if this is the same quality filter, what is your toughs on this guys ,should I keep this filters or get rid off them?

I'm in Ontario as well and I use the Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil filter M1-113, as well as the Mobil 1 extended performance full synthetic 5W20 oil ... No issues at all ... Canadian Tire puts them on sale at least once a month ... I've heard too many horror stories about the Fram filters so I stay away from them ...

Here's the Mobil1 vs Fram Ultra review.

Same guy, but seems more objective.

But the new fram filter is without the backing metal mesh ,plus the media are different too,is much longer now but not fully synthetic.

See my post above. Fram Agent says new filter is fully synthetic with 2 different material layers that doesn't require metal mesh backing.

I have a supply of XG2’s with production date of 2020 that dont say “durable metal screen” on box, looking inside there is clearly a metal screen backing the filter media.
it is more recent they went away from that, but id use those up for sure. How many you got?
